• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Abate course

Getting ready for the abate course here in Indiana to get my full endorsement . Was wondering if anyone had any pointers. I *think* I am ready, but every bit of info I can get would be appreciated.

Keep hydrated, drink when you are not thirsty, very very important. The Indy instructors are superb. Relax and enjoy its a long course.

Take each lesson as it comes, not what is going to happen or be expected to happen after several lessons.
Example: Introduction to slow speed braking, get that right. Do not think about the course information saying youshould be to brake at a high speed in a enmergency without a problem after completion.
Good luck and have fun.

I am doing the State approved course to get my full license. I know part of it is: Hard braking, obstacle avoidance, hard right and left turn, and hard 180. I have been practicing in parking lots and feel confident that I can ride the machine up to it's capabilities at lower speeds. I will probably do fine. Just was wondering if anyone could describe the course. As far as the donuts go, with my luck he would probably be a diabetic.

I did the ABATE course

I did the ABATE course a few years ago. My brother is a long term rider and when I asked him to teach me to ride, he refused and said I had to take the course. For the beginners course, you must use their bikes. When I took it, they did have a automatic bike there that I could use since I didn't really want to learn to shift. The ABATE course starts from the very beginning - this is a motorcycle, this is a helmet, this is where you put the helmet when it's not on your head. You will have many people in your class that have never ridden a bike. They will teach you the rules of the road, safety, everything. They start with the "duck walking" :roflblack: of the bike across the parking lot (someone always ends up crashing at this point!:gaah::roflblack:) and work you up to large circles following each other, then down into smaller ones and curves, eventually doing the figure 8's in the box and obstacle avoidance. We had a group of teachers, I think 3. There is lots of class work also and you need to pass the written test as well as the driving test. After you get the slip from ABATE that says you passed, then you just take it to your local BMV and they re-issue your drivers license.

When I took the course it was during a heat wave and I literally had to change clothes mid-day because I was so soaked with sweat. :opps::opps: They require sturdy shoes, long pants, long sleeves, gloves and helmet at all times on the course. Be prepared with plenty of water.

I have to admit that I was afraid :(:(:pray::pray: when I walked in the door of the classroom but everyone there made me feel at ease.:2thumbs: By the end, I could enjoy the ride, knowing that I had learned both good skills and good habits. :firstplace:

Best of luck!:spyder::spyder:

Don't overthink the course. The purpose of the course is to teach you helpful things you don't already know.

You are not expected to come in as an expert. Let the course make you the expert.

Don't worry about what others are thinking and doing. They are probably as flustered or worse than you are.
