Last Spring in Alabama was relatively wet, which encourages all sorts of things to grow -- especially bugs, and of course, things that eat bugs.
While walking around the "south forty," I almost walked headlong into this:

It's called a golden silk spider, and it was almost as big as the palm of my hand. After I knew what to look for, I found about a dozen more, usually well up in the trees. One had caught a cicada -- she ate well for a long time!
This year, it was not so wet. So imagine my surprise when I found a gold spider in my garage! But the exterminator says there's nothing he can do -- I'll have to learn to live with it.
