A survey about the Trailer...

I wouldn't be surprised. I was at my dealer's the other day and the sales manager practically begged me to take a trailer off his hands. My problem is that I live in a townhouse and my "space" is limited. (two cars and my RT) I have a place where I store my boat and "haul trailer". I just don't know if I have room for this trailer at my house. Price he was quoting was around 3 K. I would really like to have one.

I am not surprised that they are not selling as they seemed way over priced at$4879.99 Canadian:yikes::yikes::yikes:.Dealers in my area are selling them at full list price:yikes::yikes:. If I was going to invest that much money in trailer it would be a camping trailer so that the trailer would do it all.:2thumbs:

Considering that the Canadian Dollar and the U.S. Dollar are trading at just about par, that is quite a price difference...I'd love to hear from BRP on this.

Chris ,what is the dealer's name??Maybe him and I can strike up a deal.Even with shipping and GST it will be less than I can do in Canada.

I would like to hear from BRP on the whole Canadian edition of the 2011 :f_spider: accessory book. The whole book is overpriced compared to the USA version ....Whats up with that?:dontknow::hun::mad:

We have an Aspen Sentry (by Trailmaster), like the one Draboo just got. Queen-sized bed, 300 pounds, great ventilation. Sets up in five minutes. I do not have a pic of it attached to the RT, but there are some other pics of it in my album.

Just checked out their site. Really looks good. They have a picture of a 2008 RS with the camper behind it.

I saw that pic, too. They tow it behind both car and Spyder, which is what we want to do, too.

We will be camping at the Ladybug RV park, if anyone wants to check out the camper. CyncySpyder will be there with his, also. :)

I didn't get the survey but I have towed a trailer on both my RS and RT for thousands of miles so I do have some real word comments about it.

I've towed my $6,000 Bushtec over 50,000 miles with both my M109 and my Spyder RS. It's considered one of the best if not the best motorcycle trailer on the market. The only problem I've ever had with my bushtec is I broke a handle one time and that was a pain but all in all it is a great trailer.

It has a couple of downsides but that's just a personal opinion. The trailer I have was made to complement the GL1800 Goldwing and it does that well. It's a good looking trailer but it's not a great match for the RT looks wise. The other issue I have after opening it as many times as I have is it's not a one hand trailer, that is to say you can not have stuff in one hand and open it with the other hand, it pretty much takes two hands to open it. That can be frustrating when you have to set your gear down to open the lid.

As far as the RT trailer goes I personally feel it is one of the best looking trailers out there and really completes the RT package. It is very well made and looks like it's suppose to be there. I like the fact that it is keyed the same as the RT. I like the low center of gravity and the independent suspension. I like the styling of the lids although I think one lid would have been just fine and I do like the fact that I can open it with one hand. It tows great and holds more gear than I could ever stuff into it on a trip. To me the trailer is priced right for what's out there. I've looked at some of the cheaper trailers and there is a reason they are cheap. You really have to know what you're looking at to tell but I think BRP hit a Triple with this trailer, not a Homerun.

This is why it's not a Homerun to me.
The first thing was the water that dumps into the trailer from the lid. I'm glad they got a fix for that now but as they say you only get one chance to make a first impression and I can't tell you how many times I've been asked to see the inside of the trailer and I had to wipe the lid down before showing them. That was embarrassing for me and BRP. I don't think they should have sold any trailers till that had that fixed.

The other thing is the carpet job. I have yet to see one on a hot day that the sides of the carpet weren't falling down. I've been to the demos and they have the trailer there for all to see with the carpet falling off. That should never happen. I've hot glued mine so it won't do that and I'm not sure if the factory has fixed that of not but they need to. Once again you only get one chance to make a first impression and that's a bad first impression rain or shine.

The other thing I would have done if it were me was make it a 4 wire plug for the trailer like everyone else. As it is you can't tow this with anything other than the RT without an adapter and you can't tow any other trailer with the RT without making up an adapter. The Bushtec is the same way, I just think it would be better to make it more universal.

I will say I tow my trailer all the time. I use it to make a store run and it's not very often that I'm not towing it. I have less than 50,000 miles on my 6 year old truck and that's because if it can fit in the trailer I take it when I want to run to town. That's saved me fuel and wear and tear on my truck and I get the joy of a ride in while I'm at it. :2thumbs:

Well put Lamont. Good bike trailers are expensive, and the RT622 is no exception. But I love the trailer, it works, and works well. I knew going into the Spyder that things would be expensive, and I decided to just bite the bullet and go for it. I've never been sorry. Minor problems aside (can't hear the BRP installed GPS through my J&M headset), BRP has created an incredible touring combination; maybe the best on the market. I'm happy I've got this bike, and trailer, and the smiles more than make up for the money spent.

trailers

well this ole dude, from colo., is in the same age era, as scotty, in the old day's a sleep'n bag, under a pine tree, :ohyea: was adaquate, but now-a-day's, some 55 yrs. a ride'n cycles, and a artifical hip!! :yikes: I use a 16 ft pace motorcycle trailer, which i can pull with a jeep, anywhere, it will haul a spyder, or two 2-wheeler's, with room in front for a queen size air-mattress, & sleep'n bag, etc. for about the same-o price as the r.t. trailer, different strokes for older folk's!! :2thumbs:

Trailer Wishes

I am still patiently waiting for my RT, they say it has landed at the dealer's 100 mi from me, but with the storms that are lining up out there I will be waiting a bit longer. I did not choose the trailer, in the past we have taken maybe 2 extended trips a year, just can't justify the loot and trying to find a spot to store it safely the rest of the time. Now having said that if they ever came out with one that was suitable for pets than I would be all over it. Interchangeable lids maybe? One for stuff and one properly vented and windows for Fido.

:agree: A cheap trailer is pain, in the long run. The RT-622 is a relative bairgain in high-end motorcycle trailers.

.....you only get one chance to make a first impression.....
Well said! The lid/water issue, the poor carpet installation compared to the high quality elsewhere, and the late arrival of the trailers in dealerships (especially those other than black), stalled sales...and that loss of confidence and customers is difficult to regain.

The other thing I would have done if it were me was make it a 4 wire plug for the trailer like everyone else. :agree: BRP did end up with an accessory adapter this year, but a conventional trailer connection would have been better, IMO.

The tongue stand was another item missing from the 2010 trailers. Nobody wants to sit their trailer tongue on a rubber biscuit on the ground. I also agree with those that asked for brakes (and a controller)...the RT brakes are too weak alone.

I think you called the play right when you said they hit a triple. I know I would own one if the camper hadn't called that loudly and the first year of production didn't have those few fatal flaws. May still end up with a red one some day, if I could find a place to store it.

We have an Aspen Sentry (by Trailmaster), ...QUOTE]
That happens to be EXACTLY the one that I'm looking at right now... do you think that they are light enough to be towed by an RT? I haven't seen any weights listed for them...
If you email Trailmaster, they can give you an exact weight, empty. It is slightly less than 300 pounds for the Sentry, as I recall. That's about 50 pounds more than the RT-622. It limits what you can carry, especially if you carry a spare and stick to the 400 pound limit specified for the Spyder. The RT handles the Sentry fine, as long as you pack frugally and stick to the 400 pound ceiling. I pulled down to Lamont's (600 miles in one day) through the mountains and at highway speeds, and it was no problem even with my wounded Spyder. Just keep the revs up. Gas mileage wasn't great, with that big, rectangular box back there, but it was no worse than I expected, and my butt welcomed the fuel stops every 100 miles.

Packing "Frugally" is what I do!
This may have some real potential... The Missus is gonna be loading up her sidearm for sure!

You also anwered my other question about the 622's poundage... Thanks!

I'm afraid you have them reversed.

Dang! You saved me from doing something stupid ... again! Thanks, Scotty. I just got the Service Manual and was able to verify what you said.

When I think about it, 150 pound payload really isn't all that much. Especially if I want to bring a camera pack that weighs about 35#, plus a tripod. But it's enough for some spare clothing and a couple of pair of hiking boots on our long trips.
