A question for spyder riders

I have been riding on bikes on and off for 35 years. My last being a Goldwing that my wife and I went all over on. Unfortunately I suffered an back injury a few years ago and holding up 1k lb bike plus the wife and I got to be to much

i then went to a conventional trike but found the solid rear axle and heavy steering to be too much as well. Now I am waiting for my F3s in black and chrome and wondering what kind of reaction do you get from other riders?

do you get much grief from them for "selling out" not riding a "real" motorcycle? Just curious as I have heard those comments thrown around in the past

I rode two-wheelers for 50+ years - the latest was a BMW K1600 GTL. I have received nothing but interest and curiosity from my motorcycle friends. I know there are those who consider a Spyder to be an "old man's" motorcycle, or something you ride when you can't handle a real motorcycle, but I haven't run into any of them. The reaction from the public is "Wow!" It's a great conversation starter. And if I do encounter some negativity, who cares? I'm having a great time on my :spyder2:.

I've had my Spyder for about a year now and I think I only ran into 2 people that had a negative comment on it. I rode with many different bikers from the bad a** HD bikers :doorag: to the prissy ones with coordinated outfits....lol.....and I have had nothing but very positive comments and reactions.

Not to worry

I look at it like this..you're riding. And in my case, having suffered a TBI and not being sure I would walk again, I truly do not concern myself with what others think. That being said..I have friends who ride all different kinds of machines who think it's great I'm riding again. And i figure if there does come a time when someone makes a negative comment about me and my Spyder, I am positive I wouldn't hesitate to explain my sistuation.
Some just don't get it. Never have, never will. Just be safe and have fun.

I don't think any Spyder rider needs to explain anything. I ride what I choose for my reasons, and don't feel the need to justify them.

I don't walk up to Harley owners and ask them why they ride a noisy, hot vibrator on wheels. It's their choice.

:2thumbs: Welcome to my world. I just went thru and still going on with the same situation. Allmost all coments are positive. For those who coment negatively you wonder who does up their shoes! I have over 200,000 miles on GL1800's and could not be happier with my switch to my RS-S. It really makes no diffrence what others think.

Talking about bad a*** HD riders, I rode to a bike shop last weekend to buy a leather vest, outside on the parking lot were three 1% HD really bad a** HD bikers. One of the dude made a comment like "Wow, that bike looks like a "three wheel Volkswagen" but he made the comment in a funny way and not a mean way. I basically did not reply to them, and went inside the store. I was not worry too much about them, because we all carry conceal, if the 1% bikers do get stupid, my other buddy's riding with me are also retired Law Enforcement. The best think is ignored these kind of bikers and move on.

CONCERNED

ARE YOU MORE CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR SAFETY AND THE PLEASURE YOU GET WHILE RIDING... OR ARE YOU MORE CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT OTHERS THINK OF YOU....?????
IF IT'S THE LATHER - JUST GIVE UP RIDING.... :gaah:
IF IT'S THE FORMER - THEN RIDE TO YOUR HEARTS CONTENT....
MANY OF US, MYSELF INCLUDED, CAN NO LONGER RIDE 2 WHEELS FOR WHATEVER REASON... PERSONALLY, I RIDE WHAT I LIKE - THE
SPYD3R... AND IF THERE IS SOMEBODY THAT DOESN'T LIKE IT, THEN THEY ARE WELCOMED TO BUY ME WHAT THEY WANT ME TO RIDE.... UNTIL THEY DO, AND SINCE I'VE PAID FOR MY SPYD3RS, I'LL RIDE WHAT I WANT...
I'VE HAD ALL KINDS OF NEGATIVE COMMENTS, AND I'VE TOLD A FEW OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT I'M GLAD THEY DON'T CARE FOR MY SPYD3R, BECAUSE I WOULD HATE THE THOUGHT OF HAVING THE SAME TASTE IN MOTORCYCLING AS THEY DO...
:lecturef_smilie:
AT AGE 67, I DO WHAT I LIKE, AND I STAY AWAY FROM PEOPLE WITH
NEGATIVE ATTITUDES, AND I'M THE HAPPIEST CLAM IN THE MUD.... JUST ENJOY YOURSELVES AND LET NO MAN COME BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR ENJOYMENT.... RIDE SAFELY MY NEW VERY BEST FRIEND....

I'm Going from 2 to 3 Wheels

I've been riding for 45 years now and never had nor have I ever ridden a Harley Davidson. Nowadays that makes me something like a percent of bikers out on America's roads and it doesn't bother me a bit. Of the sixteen motorcycles I've owned only four were not Japanese brands. Two Triumphs and two Victory motorcycles and I still have my 2012 Cross Country which I really love. Problems with my legs, particularly my knees is forcing the issue of changing to three wheels. Cost is the primary factor in going with a Can Am and styling and comfort are the biggest reasons for choosing the F3. I already know there will be snide remarks etc. and it doesn't really bother me a bit because I'll still be riding in spite of my leg issues. As long as I am happy that's all that matters.

When they tell me "That's not a real Motorcycle" I just respond "call it what you want, I call it a blast!!!"

Question

When they tell me "That's not a real Motorcycle" I just respond "call it what you want, I call it a blast!!!"

I rode 2 wheelers for 38 years, always a Japanese bike (Honda, Suzuki etc.) and the Hardcore harley folks are going to look down on anything else no matter what. These are the same folks that go bar to bar during event rides. With the Spyder gaining in sales and popularity more and more of them are showing up on rides and we are constantly bombarded with questions everywhere we stop, the harley guys don't get that! The same goes true for why we wear ballistic dayglo coats instead of leather. To be seen and we don't mind the attention. You can't change opinion, but you can educate!

When I rode Honda and Yamaha I got more grief for riding a "Rice Burner". I have had a couple shots about my RT but I just consider the source. Most people just drool and comment positively. Buy it, you'll like it! lol

NO Worries

Have had my RT-S four months with nothing but positive feedback..Rode the F3 at a DEMO ride the other day and LOVED it.. The leg position and driver back rest put my aching knee and lower back pain totally at ease.. Comfort and handling (cornering) make this bike a pleasurable experience.. I watch as other groups of riders and potential buyers went for a 25 minute ride and ALL were wearing a BIG SMILE as they returned.. My wife will be getting an F3 in the near future and i hope to put some miles on it also(little does she know).. I still love and ride my RT-S daily.. I do seem to see the Geritol gang mostly showing interest in Spyders, but theres alot of us still out there wanting to ride.. So get a Spyder and ENJOY LIFE..:bowdown::dg1:

There are a lot of younger people that would like to own a Spyder but because of the price of Spyders the older generations can afford it easier
younger generation can buy 2 wheels for 1/3 the price of an RS

Ride it

I ride for the joy it gives ME. I wave to other riders, because I want to, if anyone has a problem with what or how I ride, that's "their" problem. I let them deal with it in their own way. I don't have the time or the interest in how they deal with it. If you find yourself thinking about what others think, go for a ride. You will soon forget all about the thoughts of others. You will be too busy smiling.

I have been lucky enough to do the :spyder2: thing since 2008 and have put on over 100,000 miles.

99.999% of all the comments I have received have been along the Wow, what a neat looking bike. How do you like it? Where can I get one. Etc., etc, etc.

I have only had one bad comment. It was--that thing looks like a snowmobile. It was my GS, and it did. :roflblack::roflblack:

I have even been checked out closely by 1%'ers. Got a thumbs up from one.

Regardless, it does not matter what others may say. I like what I have and their opinions don't count. Enjoy your new ride.:yes::yes:

Curious..!!

Are you out to fit in with others or are you out to continue ryding and enjoy the open road. I came from a wing (pretty accepting group) but that was never my concern. If they don't accept it you don't need them. You are going to find a great bunch out there...

Other riders

Doesn't much matter what other riders think or say. Most I've talked to are more interested in you ride than in putting it or you down. It's different, it's cutting edge and it's a great alternative to the traditional bike. I was to that point too where my big Harley and Goldwing were just not as comfortable to me as in the many years I rode them but still wanted the wind in the face feeling so made the switch and no regrets at all. Join us and just Enjoy your Ride.
