• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

A New Saga

If a Dealer is going to be up front and say "look we know whats wrong but it's going to take 4-5 weeks to resolve" i honestly don't have a problem with that. i wont like it but at least he told me the truth up front and did not give me the run around. :dontknow::dontknow:

Well I called the dealer today and he said that my spyder was throwing some codes and that they reset them. He said that fixed the steering but that they wanted to ride it a bit and make sure no codes show again. I think I'll have a friend ride her spyder to the dealer with me so that I compare the steering because I don't have a good feeling about their fix. All I can do is go get it and see and hope for the best.

It is easy to test for basic PS function. Put some steady stearing pressure to one side on the handlebars with the engine off. Then start the bike maintaining the same pressure. The stearing should move and release a noticable amount of pressure when the PS engages.

If there is no difference then the PS is probably not functioning properly.

The power steering assist is not huge but it is noticable.

Hope it works out for you. On the other hand the dealer could be using a placibo approach.

Well it's been there since the 20th of Feb. and still nothing has been fixed. First they told me they set a code and the power steering was working. Then they were moving one of there new ones and realized that mine wasn't working. I gave them the numbers of shops that have fixed the power steering so that they could ask what they did but so far no progress has been made. As far as the spyder going into limp mode they first said it was the fuel pressure regulator that I modified per Kens intake mod. Then they told me they think it's the Bushtec trailer hitch wiring, even though I have thousands of miles with both on my spyder.

Did they even hook it up to BUDS? It would be difficult to get a Spyder to go into limp mode without throwing some diagnostic codes. A problem could have developed with the O2 sensor mod, or the trailer wiring, but that should be pinpointed at least to system by BUDS. I'd tell them they had better prove it before they throw any rocks there. It sounds like they are just guessing. A three year old can do that. A technician is supposed to be a bit more scientific about it in this day and age.

I've had the trailer hitch on for about 8 thousand and the intake mod for around 5 thousand trouble free miles. They need to call a dealer that has fixed a few power steering problems.

Today is the 14th and I brought it in on the 20th and
still no power steering. I gave the service manager the number of the shop that fixed Baja Rons after they offered to steer my dealer in the right direction since mine shows no codes either. So far he has not called yet. He said BRP had not heard of any issues with the steering that did'nt throw any code. He has said that it could be some of the lights or my trailer hitch from Bushtec that I have thousands of miles on and have had no issues with the wiring on it. I just know I want it fixed now.

A problem with excessive amperage or a short from the lights should throw a code. A mechanical item like the trailer hitch can't cause the steering to go bad, or affect the electronics. Tell the dealer you recognize the smell of manure when you sniff it, and that he'd better wise up fast, and stop slinging BS. In the meantime, if your state has a lemon law, and it covers cycles, tell him the clock is ticking. Nothing is as irritating as an uncooperative dealer.

We have hit the two month mark now since I took my spyder in to fix the power steering that hadn't worked for eleven thousand miles. I have heard
more BS about what is wrong than you could believe. Now they are saying it is the steering column itself, something about it being magnetized or something and won't let it recalibrate. Trying to reach BRP is impossible it seems.

I'd run this by Carlo at BRP. Even though he is not a tech support person, he will consult with them. I had a few questions regarding the shock cams and he talked to his tech people and called me. I'm sure he will try to help in any way he can.

Here's the link for contacting Carlo; once contacted, he'll call.

Well two months and 4 days and I pick it up. I had a message today saying it was ready. Lamont called in a favor and a BRP rep contacted the dealer and now my power steering is fixed. I'll go get it in the morning and see. It should be like riding a brand new one since the power steering never worked from day one. I have other motorcycles so I wasn't left without but my dad who is almost 89 has been missing it like crazy. We will drive over to the dealer in Tulare and I'll let him drive it back home so that he can be a happy camper.:yes::ohyea::ohyea:

That's good news Bro. Hope that will be the last time in the shop. :doorag:

1 truth + 1 truth = be careful

I told the service manager about issues with the steering that I've read here and he said you can't believe things you read on the net. He said he wasn't aware of any problems with the steering.

Actually, these are two truths. The Net can be very inaccurate and biased - there are things you should not accept as being true or real.
I will also take him at his word that he is not aware of any steering problems and that he is just proclaiming his ignorance.

I think M2wild had it right; "Let us look into it and if there is a problem, then we will make sure it is taken care of." This is the kind of dealer I want to work with.

The bottomline is - if YOU have a steering problem, the dealer needs to work at fixing it - even if you are the only person in the world with that problem.
