There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. A little Maintenance

*UPDATE* A little Maintenance

Thought I would do a little maintenance before this Saturdays ride. Changing out the oil and filters (both trans and motor), replace the coolant fluid, and the brake fluid as well as new brake pads. Doing a little each night after work and should have it done by Friday night.
This would be a good time to replace my battery, but I want to wait until spring to charge up and install the new battery to get the best life out of it since snow is coming some day soon

Update on the progress.

Oil changed - Checked
Oil Filter replaced - Checked
HMC Filter replaced - Checked
Coolant replaced - Checked
Brake pads replaced - Checked
Brake fluid repaced - Checked

Was going to wait on the new battery, but the easy access was to tempting so I pulled the old and cleaned up the bottom of the battery tray and painted it (a little rust) Charged up the new battery and installed it. Kathy helped by pumping the brake pedel and keep telling me she is bored with it, but she did stick with it:D

The container on the left is new brake fluid and the one in the middle is what came out of my Sypder. The jug on the right is the old coolent. It doesn't look bad, but it is darker then the new.

Tonight I will run it up to operating temp and check fluid levels and finish the assembly so that I am ready for Saturday's ride!

Is there a reason you want to change your battery? If it is working fine, at least wait until spring.

Personally, I think it is silly to change a perfectly good battery.

now is a good time to change out/check all the hose clamps to. put a little dielectric grease where needed. don't forget to check the wheelbearings and repack them. mine is going up on stands this week.

The current battery is failing, and I have been keeping it alive by charging it everynight. If I leave the it turned on too long after the start screen shows up I have to jump start the bike.

In that case, change it now. You don't want it to fail in the middle of a ride, and it does happen!

I most defiantly am checking the clamps! As for the wheel bearings they are sealed bearings and I replace them every time I put new tires on.

Waiting to change the battery in the Spring is a good idea...
Why install a new batter, and then put the bike away? :dontknow:
If you're not riding: the new battery can wait!

Some won't agree but I change my vehicle batteries every three years regardless of their health. Why, because I often ride in very remote areas of west Texas and there is no help or cell service in many of these areas. I don't need a dead battery in Terlingua or Redford, TX......ha ha

:spyder2:

Hi George!
I start keeping a close eye on mine at the three year mark...

...and replace them at four seasons; regardless of how they're doing!

(Not so remote up here...)

It won't work if your battery shorts cell to cell. If you only have one ride left, then sure. But if you are going to continue riding for a while, I would not risk it.

Most likly only one more ride, but I have been pushing it since August.

Wow...!!

If you are that far into it you might as well check everything...it's Lloyd out here exposed...

I am going to change out the original battery on our 2011 (purchased in 2012) for the same reasons. I don't want to get bit in the middle of a ride far from home. I think I got an extra year of grace in 2016, but I am not going to push my luck.:yes:

thanks for posting photo`s ,, would not be hard too take motor out and check the gap in lifters , bore in the intakes , the muffler bearings ! man you got this down way far ! good job ... foot note : { where the heck is that motor hahaha

Since I have the muffler off (for ease of bleeding the rear caliper) I am going to just replace the muffler bearings as well as change out the bleaker fluid :2thumbs:

hahahahaha that is funny my friend ! I hope I will not need too get that deep in mine ! but if I do , I will clean all the dust and check connections , and any thing looking suspect !
