A few windshield questions......

I am planning on replacing my stock windshield on my 2014 RTL with another windshield that would have a vent. I plan to go with the stock size on the vented windshield. My main reason for doing this is to get more air when I am taking a trip. With the stocker that will come off, I plan to have it cut down to a shorty and use it in hot weather but probably won't use it on long trips.

Has anybody out there ridden behind more than 1 vented windshield and if so, which venting system flowed more air in hot weather? I see BRP and F4 both have vented shields but maybe there are others that will suit my purpose better.

Does anyone know the size of the shorty windshields that are coming on the new RT Special Editions? I think that I may want to cut down to that size on the stock shield.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I did not purchase a vented windshield, but I opted for one that was 4 1/2" wider than stock. That worked out great for the winter months. Like you, I wanted a shorter shield, so I cut mine down. I asked a couple of glass shops first, and they said that they would have to charge a shop fee of $50 regardless, and suggested that I do it myself. I tapped both sides up with painters tape, purchased a coarse wood saw blade for a borrowed jig saw, and went to work. The stock shield was 25", so I cut 6" off the first time. I wasn't happy with my shaky hands, so I marked it down another 3/4" and gave it another try. After the cut, I went over the edge with a 400 grit sanding block. I am very pleased. At it highest position, it is just like the stock one in it's lowest position. At the low position, it is great, but you get more wind noise at higher speeds. I did a 466 mile weekend trip to Myrtle Beach about 2 weeks ago, and it did great. I do suggest going about 1" taller than you necessarily have to for the first cut. That will allow for a do over in case you want to give it another try (that's what I did)
