There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 998 VS 1330

I'm looking to purchase a second spyder @ evaluating various models.

I believe all 2008-2013 models utilize 998 & the 1330 was introduced in 2014. In 2014 & 2015, what models utilzed the 998 & what models utilized the 1330? I searched the web for a simple list/answer, but no luck.

You are correct 2008 to 2013 for the 998 engine. If it is important to you there are 2 different 998 engines. GS/RS 2008 to 2012 are lower compression, 87 octane gas and higher peak HP of 106. RT's 2010 to 2013 and all 998 engines 2013 and later, higher compression, 91 octane gas, reduced peak HP of 100 but a wider, flatter torque/HP curve. 1330 engine in 2014/15 RT and 2015 F3.

There you have it..

:agree: all models from 08 thru13 have the 998cc. Only the RT's and F3's 2014/15 have the 1330cc ace engine. Now there was an HP Drop on the 998cc from 106 down to 100hp but don't have those details. My RS 2012 is a 106hp....

Billybovine got it for you....

My first spyder was a 2012RTS-SE5 that had the 998 engine kept that for 2 years, then I upgraded to a 2014RTS-SE6 with the 1330 ACE Engine( and loving it) Deanna

What are the big things that you love about 1330 and/or different from 998? I enjoy my v-twin 998 with 106 hp & high rpm power band & overall light weight; however, reviews of 1330 tickle my interest to switch engines.

Lower RPM - 40 MPG - 200 mile + range

Still ride the 998 2011 RT SM-5 and enjoy its nimbleness, BUT....

Going for the long haul, always liked the idea of a lower revving, broad torque band, economical cruiser. That's why we got the 2015 RT-S
and enjoy its 200 mile range per tank and lower maintenance. Oil change intervals of 9,300 miles as per BRP, no valve adjustments, and IMHO engine life should be improved making this our retirement cruiser. So far with 10,000 miles and counting the SE-6 is satisfying on all accounts. Looks like its oil usage will also be minimal. Only minor downside I see is the added weight and a little more tire wear, but not a big thing.

As you know; the 998s are GREAT engines.
But the 1330 just seems to fit my riding style better... ;)
I'm a "Low and slow" rider; shift early, ride at or below the speed limits, and enjoy the scenery...
I prefer to NOT be thinking about keeping the revs above the 3,500 rpm threshold...
I LIKE getting almost 40 mpg out of every tank of fuel that gets processed by the bike...
The relaxed feeling of the lower rpm levels just seems to fit better for me; it may not be everyone's cup of tea!

I have a 2013 ST-S SE5. I was reading in the "Dos and Do Nots for New Spyder Owners" that the 998 should not be lugged, keep RPMs above 4300 and when shifting do not let RPM drop below 4300 as the engine performs more efficiently at higher RPM. I have been following that advice as close as I can and I have averaged 42 MPG consistently.
I also use 90 octane non-ethanol gasoline. Engine runs great!!! During a Demo Days ride, I rode a F3, nice ride, the 1330 engine is a different beast, lower RPM required and a bunch more torque. The 1330 did not require as much shifting as the 998 because of the torque available at lower RPM. I still enjoy my ST and I do not mind running at higher RPM.

Both engines provide a ride that is as quick and as spirited as you make it. Enjoy your choice, whatever it may be!!
