There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 92 degrees, 103 degree heat index = nasty running Spyder..

Oh yeah! You are describing it to a 'T'. :dontknow:

And, the humidity is pretty high during much of these summer months, for sure.

I think :spyder:like dryer weather and cooler weather. If it's cool and muggy it's still not bad. Just when it gets hot and muggy.

Here in Wichita today it was 103 with 70% humidity the Spyder ran like :cus: I think the update which I had done Friday is a contributing factor I have ridden before in 100 degree weather with high humidity and it affected it a little but it was worse today. I am going to play with the Juice box setting a little.:(

I didn't read all the replies.
Here in South Florida we run ambient temp at 1: PM is around 104. I installed a fan over ride switch. As soon as I see 5 bars. I flip the switch fan comes on and stays on until I turn it off. Remember the normal fan cycle is. Comes on at 210* and turns off at 190*. It just keeps repeating that over and over.
with the over I stay at 3 to 4 bars all the time. very easy to install:2thumbs:

I removed the rubber bib under the steering column and frame of the bike, also removed the plastic cover, underneath trunk that runs from left to right allowing more air into the general engine area. Cool air in hot air out..:2thumbs:

That plastic bar under the trunk lid is there the protect the electronics from getting wet.

Backfiring can mean ambient air getting into the exhaust. Have you ever inspected or replaced the three exhaust gaskets? Many other threads on this topic explain in detail.

16,500 miles in just over 10 months, and this is the one thing that is a big irritant for me. When I leave home in the morning, the Spyder runs perfect! I go out at lunch with the temps. indicated, and it runs really rough - almost like it's running on 1 cylinder.
And today, especially; it was backfiring really bad, and loud. I pulled through a parking lot, and then headed back onto the main road, and it stalled. I actually didn't think it was going to restart. It did, and I went to get gas - only needed about 4 gallons. When I left the Shell Station it was better. But, still not like when it's under 90 degrees.
I went out to the Hwy to run it around 70mph. All seemed pretty good. When I exited about 7 miles later, it was okay. But, not like when I'm riding at cooler temps.

This seems to be the norm anytime it's over 90 degrees. It will be the same when I leave to head home tonight. Then after maybe, 10 miles or so, it will probably improve. When it's like this it's louder, and rougher running. And, it sure won't run a steady 40mph or so without missing some. It will studder, for sure.

Who else has been experiencing this? I think (Tim) zzneonzz reported something similar here.

Thanks!
Well, here in Tucson it's always over 100 in the summer. Spyder doesn't seem to have any problems, although we don't have the humidity you do back east.:dontknow:

Thanks for all the replies, everyone!

There might be an exhaust leak at the Hindle elbow. If there is, I've gotten used to it, I guess. I'm about tired of messing with it, honestly. And, here's the other thing. Sealant has been used on it previously. And, I Am sure within the next 1,000 miles or so, another exhaust gasket will blow, and need to be replaced. So....... :dontknow:  Lol!

Another thread (by Lamonster) showing how Honda Goldwing exhaust gasket will replace Spider --- heavy duty stuff - and far less $$.

Just had my "Recall Fix" done. Bike runs awful! I'm on 4th tank of high dollar fuel to see if it will help -- not so far. Seems engine wants to constantly hunt for constant speed. Keep it at 40 MPH in 4th gear and RPM does not change, but engine is constantly hunting (surging) as an example. Not really thrilled with the bike right now.:cus:

Prior to the "fix" I had the chance to ride a '09 SE5. WOW what a machine!!:2thumbs: No comparison to my '08 SE5!! That was prior to the "fix" on either machine.

I'll keep watching the forum for other folks' results. Plus I'll take it to the dealer just to let them know how my machine is acting. Maybe I can sneak out with their SE5 '09!!

The 2008 and 2009 SE5s are virtually identical, except for minor changes like a tubing cover over the front fuel line. Nothing that affects the engine programming or performance. You need to ask your dealer why yours does not run as well as their demo...and make them get to the root of it. You may have to be pushy. Make them ride and compare.

Running rough

I have the same problem, when it's hot and humid. Spyder just doesn't run the same. I had the recall done the other week and it's just not the same and mpg is down. Got ii in the shop today for the parking brake, this is the fourth try to get it right, I told them about the problems and I always give them copies of alot of the threads on this site to help them and so I have a record of issues. I'll miss my:spyder:, I'm a happy owner, I can't wait to see the 2010 models and if BRP solved some of these issues. Anyone out there get any news on the new models?

They came out with a power commander for the Spyder yet? Maybe that will be the fix.

When I had my dual exhaust done about a month ago by a local (small) shop but a PC dealer we were mulling over JB, O2 elim, and PC. Ended up using Ken's O2 elim - just fine but have not had the flash done yet.

Anyway...the shop called DynoJet and they sadi they were not going to work on a PC for the Spyder. Could be BS, but I suspect it's gonna take a grass roots assault on DJ to get er done - if even that will work.

Pete

I seem to remember hearing DJ lab asking someone to donate their Spyder time to the lab so they could work on a PC for it .... in return they get a freebie PC.
