• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

7 years later this still bugs me

I bought my 2008 GS in September 2007
There were things about the bike that bothered me and I was able to change most of them the way I wanted
I now have a 2014 RTL and really like the changes BRP made to the bike
After making :spyder2: for 7 years you would think BRP would put a switch on the bike so you would not have to wait to start it [waiting for safety message]
It is the one thing that still bugs me after 7 years of ridding :spyder2:
Some of you have stated that the 2014 does not take as long but mine seems to take longer than my 2008 did, and if shut off it seems to go to that mode sooner than my GS did
Still love the bike:yes::yes::yes:
just not patient when wanting to get going
never did like waiting for anything :dontknow:

As I see it..!!

it should be a time sensative reminder. Say connected to the odometer and after 1000 miles it shuts off. You should have the routine learned by then. Have learned to live with it but like you I agree...

The 2014 RT would definitely take longer to boot up than your 2008 GS did. In fact, the GS/RS has always started much quicker than the RT. But the 2014 RT takes a few seconds less to boot up than say the 2010 RT did. I think the RT has more computers than the RS does.

One year at Spyderfest they had a Cuba Mural Tour night and everybody rode their Spyders to each of the murals in town. A lady would tell a story about the mural and then everyone would start up their bikes to move on to the next location. At each stop you would hear all of the RSs start and then 10 to 15 seconds later all of the RTs would start. It was rather funny.

I have a 2008, and I don't have to wait, except for the split second it takes for me to hit the 'M' switch on the left handle bar.

TIME

It all has to do with the boot up time for the computers ........................except for mine !!!!!!................I have a battery that was not properly set up at the Dealer and was not correctly charged. I plan to have it exchanged at the first service . If my GF and I both try to start our RT's together Hers starts about 1.5 seconds quicker ......I attest that to my weak Battery.......Mikeguyver :gaah:

It is bothersome. I try to remember to turn the Spyder on before I put on my helmet and get on it. I noticed the same thing on our 14 RTL. It seems to take longer than our 2010.

My 12 RSS takes a few seconds for the gauge sweep after key turn. At that point it's a quick press of the button on left handlebar to acknowledge the safety message and she's ready to roar.

You just have to love those computers. Think of this as the :ani29: giving you permission to ryde. :roflblack:

An irritating thing, but I am guessing it all boils down to legal liability issues. :yikes:

Ditto. Turn the key hit the button and start the spyder. Takes about as long as it did to read that sentence. :dontknow:

Someplace; I recall reading that the RTs have about ten times the amount of code for the computers to kick around before firing up...
I wouldn't mind them giving us some faster CPUs... :2thumbs:

that sounds good to me! I never drive faster than my CPU can calculate, so that would get me out of the slow lane.

BRP put the safety message instead of just saying "Computer Loading" or something similar.
All vehicles have computers in today's world
Many have traction control and many other safety features
Do you have to sit and wait for your car or truck to boot up
I know I don't. I just turn the key and it starts
The only vehicle you may wait to start is a diesel in cold weather
And they don't take as long as my Spyder

Faster CPU probably wouldn't change a thing. It's all the sensors that feed the computer... they all have to be "pinged" and synchronized. This is the majority of the boot time, I would think. Still, I wonder why the RT takes so much longer than other vehicles that have much similar functionality! :dontknow:

They DO seem to move slower than Maple Syrup left outdoorsm in January... in Canada! :D

Maybe they're giving the slowest reader among us; enough time to read the safety card...
