There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. 600 Mile Service

I know you can do your own oil changes, etc., but is it mandatory to have a BRP dealer perform the initial 600 mile service?

My personal thoughts are that as long as one were to do the checks and change the appropriate fluids and have receipts for same it would be no different.

Is there some precedent or anything that would void the warranty if it were done by an outside shop?

An outside shop cannot connect BUDS to check for faults (and clear them), or download updates. The dealer will also check th VIN# against any service bulletins or warranty campaigns. He is also better equipped to retension the belt. You can do part of this yourself, or at an independent dealer, but I would still pay the BRP dealer to do the once over. Be sure and document that each item on the maintenance checklist was done...like inspecting and cleaning the oil tank screen and lubing the front suspension. This isn't just a simple oil change.

:agree:

The 2nd most important item on Scotty's list to me is the BUDS... I know of about 4 updates already this year (2011 model year) and depending on when your Spyder was prepped for delivery, one or more of those is needed. 1st most important item for me... The rest... These babies need to be looked at by a shop who knows what they are doing and adjust accordingly.

Many of those that had less than good dealers, had issues. Most that have good to great dealers, seem to report the most excitement about their Spyders and lack of needed corrections or repairs.

Can you list the 4 updates you mentioned. I just had the 600 done and nothing was mentioned about any updates. Paper work says they checked for codes, checked fluids, adjusted drive belt, changed oil and filters, checked air in tires, checked brake wear and performed the warranty work for the "does not meet california emissions" crap. I have the maint. plan with my dealer so my cost was 20.53 because I wanted full synthetic and not the BRP blend. That was the difference between the two oils. I had them put in Redline 10/40.

We are finding that these units need carefull attention at each scheduled service. Main reason is that things come loose , vibrate , move around and flat out need looked at in detail to stay on top of potential issues. Each service we do is as extensive as the first 600 mile service. We have found cracked oil pressure switches, rubbed through wires, loose sway bars and other odds and ends that were unknown to the customer at time of service? So its important if your dealer doesn't do your service that you know your machine.

I intend to have the 600 mile service done at the dealership, as well as the 12,000 mile service. My problem is that for a machine that runs $30K you would think it would not be several times more expensive to maintain than say my Corvette or F150 4X4. :gaah:

I see several areas where Suzuki is ahead of BRP in displaying and access to information as far as being user friendly. Heck, my 2008 gave me a readout as to average MPG, etc..

:agree:The maintainence costs to keep :spyder2: running is on the high side--as in--the most expensive to maintain vehicles that I have owned. That will be a consideration for me for future purchases.

My Vulcan 900 with 5000 miles so far, has had $150 in maintainance charges (oil change, filter, 600 mile check over). No other maintaince issues whatsoever.

600 mile

I checked with the local dealer in little rock,ar and those nut cases want about 350.00 to do the service????????????????? it cost me 185.00 to do a full service on my semi.

what a rip off this might have changed my mind on buying from them if I knew.

How far are you from Cowtown USA in Cuba MO? They quoted me $135 during Spyderfest but due to time contraints I wasn't able to get it in while I was in town. My dealership in Keokuk, IA is going to do my 600 mile service this Saturday and they quoted me $150. :2thumbs: Any dealership charging $300+ is just plain greedy and isn't looking for repeat business. :lecturef_smilie:

600 mi service

It is a shame that greed should taint such a great product,so will do my own since I read it is recommended and not a mandatory item and found I can find out online if there are updates to my serial number.

what a time we are having with our spyder even if we have to ride with a goldwing group since there is so few of us yet!
