600 mile first service?

My dealer states I should bring in my F3S at 600 miles to change the oil and have a looksee (oil change, adjustments, etc). Manual doesn't state 600 miles - first inspection at 3000 miles. Thoughts?

Why would u not want break-in oil and such done as the dealer has requested? My 600mile service on my F3S cost me about $350. Well worth it as they found several systems that needed adjustment.

My dealership also suggested this (as this was the first F3 that they'd sold). It was my choice, but I opted to do it. You may have already seen some of the pictures of the metal found in the oil that was drained. I have always done an oil change after the break-in mileage. Your mileage may vary.

:ani29:'s equipped with the 1330 ACE engine are supposed to be scheduled for the break-in service oil change and check over at 3,000 miles--not 600 miles.

The 600 mile break-in service is for :spyder2:'s equipped with the 998 Engine.

Dealer needs to have their "certified" mechanics take some more classes. :yes:

If they tell you at 14,000 miles you need a valve check service--run--run--run. nojoke

I would bring the manual to the dealer in question and show him what BRP says to do. If he says anything to the contrary, I would ask him why he has a hard time understanding the English language and walk out. Then I would call BRP and report the dealer. BRP has extensive research on the engine and if we follow their program we will be in tune with them. That's why the oil change intervals are now 9300 miles. I am sticking to that and will push it to 10,000 mile intervals.

if it's on there dime take it in and have them have a looksee. Otherwise go by the manual at 3,000 miles. Your covered regardless but it's an added expense. Now waiting till 9,300 miles for the next oil change is a different story...:thumbup:

maybe..

just maybe your dealer is including the 600 "on his dime" as part of the sale ?? like many car companies do... If so, please let us know! Otherwise, as advised above, he's just plain wrong.

Sounds like the dealer is after more of your money! The dealer ( of course ) will say that he's only
looking after your interests! It's a modern triple! 3000 miles will be fine.
I'm on 2300 miles at the moment and the motor is fine.....there is a reason BRP state that the first
service is at 3000.

Close. 3000 miles, then, 9,300 miles LATER (12,300), then, every 9,300 or once a year--whichever comes first.

My dealer's Spyder service tech said 600 miles also (At $350 + oil/filter/tax).. and not their dime. I will go closer to the 3000 miles as per the manual. I'll keep a close watch on the vitals in the meantime. I am pleased with the tech's work as I had both warranty and non-warranty work done by them on the wife's RT, but I am not crazy with their service pricing. The next closest dealer is across San Antonio from me and I wasn't all that shot-in-the-a$$ with the break-in service they did on my now departed Victory (plus they aren't much cheaper).
