There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Can I get a idea how much I should expect to pay for my first 600 mile service check up. I might be able to get a average cost by imput from previous service costs from members. Then I will know how much cash? to bring with my ride. Thanks, Bob

I've seen posts that range from $250 to $1200 - very dealer dependent, and whither there are multiple dealers close by.

If you don't do any of the work, or provide any of the materials, plan on $400 +/-. Seems to be about the average.

I was told to expect it to be around $300 for the 600 mile and to bring a fund cite for the 12,000 mile service.

Wow .... that's more than 10c per mile. In gasoline term that be like $8 per gallon. Guess I'll be doing most of the work .... again.

I bought a 3 year maintenance agreement when I bought my 2010 RT in April of 2010 so maintenance was already paid for. But I have copies of the bills for each of the services for my own maintenance records. Here are the amounts for each service.

600 mile service $286.44
3000 mile service $286.44
6000 mile service $382.12
9000 mile service $225.94
12000 mile service $509.93
15000 mile service $231.46

My dealer is Family Powersports in San Angelo, Texas. In my case, the maintenance agreement has already saved me money over paying for the individual services and I still have 23 months left on the agreement. On the other hand, Dudley did all his own service work on his 2009 RS SE5 and recently posted that he spent just over $500.00 on maintenance in some 43,000 miles and it was still running perfectly when he traded it for a 2010 RT.

The $250-$350 ballpark seems to be pretty much average at 600 miles. A lot of people are doing the recommended valve checks at 10,000 miles which runs the cost way up for that service. I did it on the 2008 and when i went in to check on the bike--it was virtually torn apart. I spent over $1000 on that service. Since talking with the dealer, and reading some posts here, I am confident that valve checks can be put off until 30K miles plus. It's a gamble---but. I have not had that service performed at 10K on the 2009 RS or the 2010 RTS. 2009 was just brought in for oil change/filter/checkover (20K miles) and that part was about $300. They found a bad brake roter and wheel bearings in the back--so that bumped up the cost beyond the $300.

2010 RT-S purchased January, 12, 2010

600 mile $296.87

3000 mile $187.19
6000 mile $703.43
9000 mile $346.54
12000 mile $480.17
15000 mile $120.97

600 mile service

I Did my own 600 mile service for $75 and 3 1/2 hours on a nice Saturday afternoon. There is nothing mysterious about doing an oil change. And yes I replaced every gasket and washer and filter with new ones. And yes I pulled the oil tank screen, greased the front suspension, checked the tourque on the motor mounts, front sprocket, lug nuts, lubed the reverse cable, Checked the brake resavoir, lubed the parking brake mechanizm and loosened up the drive belt some more, and probably a dozen other things that a dealer would have me believe I shouldn't or couldn't do myself. :2thumbs:

I am surprised to read that there is any charge for the initial (600 mile?) service. I would think that it would be included in the price of the unit and promoted as being free. Having to shell out $200 to $300 for an inspection of a brand new vehicle, in some cases only a couple days after it's purchase, is not comforting to say the least!

In 45 + years of buying Motorcycle's and now Trikes' i've never known any dealer that Didn't charge for the 6 hundred mile service. That's just the way it is.:dontknow:
The only exception was on my 1800 VTX the first service was at 6 Thousand miles. [charged].

Our experience is certainly different except for our (apparent) ages. <g>

Does Can Am require/recommend service/inspection at 600 miles or is that a dealer profit center?

My opinion [only] It's a little of both,
I've never taken in any bike for a 6 hundred service i do myself and never had a problem with warranty work when [if] needed.
