6 weeks and still in the shop ... could use some advice

I could use some advice on what to do. I have 2013 STS. First of May took it to my dealer ... brake light kept lighting up as I was going down the road (not touching my brake) and of course the cruise won't work. They had it for two weeks, replaced the cruise, adjustments made. Now, it has been at the dealer for going on 6 weeks. Keeps blowing fuses. They replaced the TCM. Told me it was fixed .. went to pick it up, and it blew a fuse when they started it. So drove away without it. Three weeks later (today), they called said it was ready to go. This time they replaced the power steering module. I was sooo excited. I started it up, got 400 yards down the road. And it blew another fuse, all the electronics go black, speedometer and tach freeze up, and power steering goes out. I limped back to the dealership, put my key on the counter, told them to call me when its fixed, walked back to my pickup, sat in the seat and cried. I'm so frustrated. I just don't know where to turn. So, between the two issues, this puts me at 8 weeks without my bike during the peak of riding season.

I just don't know what to do. I believe the dealership is doing everything within their power to get it fixed, but my confidence level is just about non-existent. What would you guys do?

Have you filed a claim with BRP? It sounds like you have an "issue" :spyder2:

I understand what you are going through. Be careful not to use the lawsuit word and try to get this worked out with BRP.

Please keep us informed.

I really think its time you took it to a different dealer. This one cannot seem to find the problem. Suggest calling BRP and talking with them, have them recommend a dealer to take it to. Call and make an appointment. Sometimes you just have to make a change.

Have to agree..!!

:agree: go to brp with this even if the dealer claims to be in touch. Get a case number and follow up with it. Thats to long...:gaah:

Brake lights staying on and thus causing the cruise not to work is a common problem on 2013 STs. The fix is to replace the brake light switch. The dealer replaced the cruise control you say, well there is no such thing. The dealer is BSing you. It is time to contact BRP directly and get some action on their part. You could try calling other dealers and see if they will take this on. I think they may be unwilling to take on a repair that appears that your current dealer created.

PS It is my personal opinion that if any dealer has your Spyder for warranty repair for more than a week you should be getting a loner.

Sounds like you have an electrical short somewhere in the system. I would suggest finding a qualified electrical guy at a BRP dealership.

Any chance you could post the repair records so we could see actions accomplished and maybe offer accurate advise on a repair.

What fuse is tripping, that isolates it to a given circuit. Next would be to remove non essentials and isolate components or even the harness.

Any component that acts as a ground to complete is less likely a culprit.

If the brake lights staying on usually meant a wire is touching or crossed somewhere. I would ask them to look there.. I had rewired my 2009 SE5 when I built a luggage rack and put on an extra LED brake light on the back. It was quite trying as I remember. Their electronic for the signals and brakes light are super sensitive. Just one little touch in the wrong spot the fuse would blow. Good Luck.

I assume you are talking about the dealer in Peru. Personally, I don't think there is a better dealer in Indiana. The tech is certified on the spyder and has been around for 15+ years. The service manager has been at that dealership for over 25 years. I assume they have been in contact with BRP on this. What is the response from them? I would suggest to them that they start working on a replacement if they can't find the problem.

We need more info. date of sale, how many miles driven, dealers name and address, your name. Please PM with the information.

Short somewhere in the harness. The ? is where? These are the hardest to find. Agree that BRP tech should be involved.

Mr. TJSutton,
What is the current state of affairs with your Spyder? Has your electrical issue been solved? Because you've given an unnamed shop a black eye, you've got speculation going on here as to which dealer you're working with. This is the problem with an unidentfied dealer post, and no followup from the OP. No shop is 100% perfect. I agree with my fellow Hoosier TD, Maximum Powersports has a great reputation.

Hi Dick, I was. I didn't want to use them by name, because I didn't want this to reflect on them. They did an awesome job, just took a while to figure it out. They have been a great dealership!

I'm not sure how I gave them a black eye. I mentioned in my original post, I thought they were doing everything they could. And it is "Ms" Sutton. The reason for no followup is the shop was closed for two days, following my returning the bike to them, so nothing to follow up on. But thanks for the help.

Brought Spyder home today ... seems to be working well

They think the problem may be tied to two auxiliary power jacks that had been installed over a year ago. They thought it was weird that it just became a problem, but it was all they could figure out. So I asked them not to reconnect them until we make sure it is working correctly. Thank you EVERYONE for your advice. Love my Spyder and so glad to have it home and running. :)
