• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. 6.2 Earthquake for Alaska this AM

ARtraveler

R.I.P. Dwayne
We were jolted by a 6.2 earthquake at 9:51 AM today. The house danced and shook, and the pictures rattled on the wall for about 35 seconds. No damage, and no one hurt. The epicenter was about 85 miles NW of my location. The quake was felt as far North as Fairbanks (350 miles N).

Talked with Akspyderlady and she experienced similar results with a bit more shaking at her home. The water almost sloshed out of the fish tank and she was afraid the bookcases were going to topple over. Once again, no damage, and no one hurt.

I will check back to see if there was any major damage near the epicenter. So far, all seems well and no Tsunami warnings issued, because the quake was inland.

From KTUU TV:
"A magnitude 6.2 earthquake at 9:51 a.m. rattled Southcentral Alaska, with early reports from the U.S. Geological Survey placing the epicenter at 60 miles west/northwest of Willow.
The Alaska Earthquake Information Center initially estimated the magnitude at 5.7.
Casey Cook, director of emergency services for the Mat-Su Borough, said the borough had received no reports of major damage as of shortly after 10 a.m.

The shaker sent office workers scrambling under tables and school teachers instructing students to duck and cover. Groceries spilled from store aisles and pictures fell from walls, but it was unclear if anyone had been hurt.
Willow Fire Chief Mahlon Greene said no one has been reported injured and he has received no reports of major damage."

 This is NOT what I'd want, for an eye-opener!
Glad to hear that you and "AKLady", weren't serously affected.
At least you've got a GREAT excuse to take the bikes out to look for damage! Spyder emoticon.gifSpyder emoticon.gif
I hope that you don't find any!

I'm glad everyone is OK. Another reason I'm glad I live in a part of the country where all I have to worry about are tornadoes. And I don't worry about them too much.

Glad to hear all is well. The cats shedding a little more today?

All three cats bailed under the bed when the dance started.

Unlike dogs, which start acting a little quirky--just before--an earthquake event. Linda's dog was right on.

Not good to hear. My cousin and her husband just left for the bush last week, where they live, all winter, every winter . . . of course, there isn't much in the way of utility disruptions that could effect them, as long as the cabin remains intact . . . they check in with family every few weeks by a satellite phone they have . . . but there is no way to call them.

Also hope they are well. They may have to fire up the sat phone if there are problems.
