There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 590 Garmin replacement

3-togo

New member
Hello,
Some wonderful Oregonian ripped off my Garmin 590 lm from my 2015 rtl while I was using the restroom at the Chevron station in Terbonne Or. Needless to say ,I was really urinated off about my good fortune. However, would appreciate any suggestions for replacing. Is the Garmin 590 proprietary to the Spyder because of the mount or is the mounting connection universal ? In other words, do I need to purchase the Garmin from a Spyder dealer only ? Thanks in advance for any help.

Sorry for your loss man. They can be bought on Amazon and Ebay but you're going to pay $500+ for it. The rare times I use mine I take it off and lock it up. Same with my cell. The world just doesn't lack for low life a**holes and thiefs.

I think the 590 has been replaced with the 595. Unfortunately it lists for $899. You can call them (1-800-800-1020) to find if it will mount to the Can-Am adapter.

After reading this post, it didn't take me 5 minutes to order the Kradlelock. Sorry for your loss but thanks for the advise.

Thanks everyone. I will order the lock and Garmin. Will pursue the suggestions with Garmin. I was considering the helmet lid lock device but now concerned for my headsets. Not sure how I survived sixties without electronics ! Thanks again.

Check your insurance policy

My insurance policy has a replacement clause for anything like helmets, Garmin, riding gear etc. and I think it is no deductible. So check your policy first.

As previously noted by others. Purchase the Kradellock, it really works and you can ryde worry free regarding the GPS on the bike.

Agreed

Asking since I don't know. I realize the Garmin devices are just a reciever, but does the 590 or any of their lastest devices have the ability to locate similar to a cell phone?

The difference between a Spyder Garmin and non Spyder Garmin should only be the little Spyder display Icon and the find a Spyder dealer stuff.

I thought I read a while back someone had extracted those files and shared them so folks could overcome a situation similar to yours or when replacing a Garmin device.

Sorry to here someone stole yours. Unless the wife or friends are planning to stand there, I always pull the Garmin and put it in the storage compartment or carry it.
Sorry to hear but it goes to show you, you just can't leave something of value like that in the open even for such a short time!

:agree: My agent told me anything that came with the bike is covered. Not sure about the deductible.

I just got the 595lm with my F3. Even the dealer was shocked at the $1400aussie price tag for the Spyder Garmin, so he bought a vanilla one wholesale for me. Cost $800aussie. We could see no real difference apart from the Spyder custom logo. Bloody expensive logo :yikes:

As painful as it is, I pop my phone and GPS in my helmet and take it with me into the petrol station. I leave the key in the ignition though, coz by the time a thief goes through the starting procedure (if they know it), and reads the safety card:lecturef_smilie:, I'll be back

Well

Not too sure about down under, but one thing the BRP GPS has is all Spyder dealers are listed in the GPS, not sure that is worth $600.00 though!

there is a thread here somewhere that has a link to downloading the dealer information and maybe even the logo(not sure about that part). I looked but couldn't find it,maybe somebody else remembers it .

I am sorry about your stolen Garmin. I lost mine, still can't remember where I put it away. Kids will probably find it going thru my stuff after I die.

If you buy anther 590 it will fit and work on that mount. I see there is remanufactured one available at a discount price on gpscity.ca. Since you are in the US gpscity.com should have similar deal. If you get a new one. You can add the Spyder vehicle. I can send you a copy. The dealer list is available on the BRP website and can be put on your new gps. Just follow their instructions.

I don't lock my 660 down but depending on the location I will take it off and put it away. I have the passcode setup. It won't stop it from being stolen but I have some satisfaction that they can't use it or sell it. I also have changed splash screen. It comes up for a short time before the passcode screen. It says If you find this GPS and it is not on this "picture of my spyder" Then call or text "my mobile number"

Won't bother me, Pirate........we only have about 3 dealers out here :) ....I'm sure there will be some other stuff on the BRP one, but I haven't noticed anything yet :dontknow:
