• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I have 47,000+ miles on my Spyder now and at 20K I changed the rims out and put new tires on, the old tires were fine but I wanted to start with new rubber. I have no wheel weights, just Ride-On. I'm not sure how many miles I'll get on these but I ride hard in the twisties all the time and they still look great. I feel sorry for you guys that are getting less than 10K out the fronts.
 
That is really cool, and good for you as well. I think there is a slight alignment issue with my Spyder, as I noticed the inner section of my right front is showing more wear than the rest of that tire. The left still looks great like yours do. I have almost 12,000 miles on mine, and am not expecting the right one to last too much longer. It could also be that is just a bum tire, as the wheel took 13 weights to get it balanced properly. :dontknow:

I agree with Ron. A tire carcass that is way out of balance is more likely to show uneven wear around the circumference (scalloping) than even wear around one side. I would suspect inadequate toe-in, combined with a steering sensor that is a little bit out of adjustment, or a heavy rider plus the steering sensor issue, as one possibility. The other possibility is worn suspension components. Ball joints, tie-rod ends, A-frame bushings, or especially shock bushings could be damaged. This may be so minor that it doesn't even show when you do a "shake" test, but can flex excessively under load. I would actually look for such damage before you do any alignment.
 
Man I,m on my 4th set of fronts ! Finally did a front end alinement myself and hope this will give me better ware. It took about 2 hours to do,not bad as it took about 2 hours to round up the materials to do the job. the dealer kept telling me it was in spec.,but given the time frame he looked at the machine there is no way he could have checked it. I was going through a set every 6K wearing to the wear bars on the insides of both fronts a little more on the right. When I made the adjustment on the tie rods I could't believe how much movement a quarter turn would make .
 
I have 26K miles on my original front tires and they look almost as new as the hubby's front tires with only 750 miles on them. I have Ride-ON in mine and there are wheel weights.

Holy crud I had to replace my fronts at 6000 + as they were REALLY bad on inside for both. Went on trip to Wi and back tire needed changed. But waited till I got back to Cowtown folks and they replaced that tire at 9839 miles. Soooo WHAT'S that stuff you put IN? the tire ( Lousy memory!!!) and where could I get some. I ride fairly hard, in 4th mostly, around Mo lotsa twistys. Could I put a regular car tire on the back?? Finding one like that seems to be the biggest problem but is it feasable?? Anybody out there try that route. I have the 6 spoke wheels,on a SE5 09 and the tire rims have alot of wts. Alighnment SURE HELPED!!! Just me ThreeFeet here in MO.

Ride on is what he put in the tires, just search that, I have been running car tires on the back since I got my first one burned thru in 2k ( fillled the psi to car spec, ate the center out) and with the drag racing and normal for seth riding I get about 8-12k for miles out of rear tire and about 12k out of my fronts, I am going to put ride on in the next set. I have the outside of one one fronts eating out so I have to do a minor adjustment out.

Thanks for the info. This tire actually required the same number of weights on the new powder coated rims, as it did on the stock rim the Spyder came with. I have a feeling it is a bum tire issue; however, the dealer I bought the Spyder from is no longer in business and it doesn't seem like the other dealers feel a need to be concerned about it either. :dontknow: Next time I happen to go to a dealer I will ask them to check the front end suspension components as well. I just put a BFG g Force Sport on the rear, and will most likely find some car tires for the front when the time comes to replace them as well.

Hay Lamont, what tire pressure do you use in your front, rear.
I use 16psi nitrogen for front and 26 psi nitrogen for rear. I use standard shocks, tires, and ride-on. Just curious?

I've been running 20 in the front and 30-32 in the rear.
 
I have about 9K and my fronts are just about bald. I received new tires and Ride-on last week. I'll be replacing them myself, as soon as I find the time to get to the Car-Care facility on Ft. Gordon.

I'll be doing my own alignment, too, but need to find a dealer to hook up BUDS and reset the steering angle and torque offset.

I just don't get people wearing them out in just a few thousand miles unless there is something wrong with alignment.

There may be some that ride harder than I do but I ride hard enough.

Alignment is critical for good tire wear on everything else with 2 wheels in front so it stands to reason the same applies to the Spyder. The front end components seem to be substantial so I doubt the major cause of misalignment is wear or damage.

That tire was mine but Lamont didn't get it from me! It was our friendly (but directionally challanged) UPS driver! :gaah:
