2333 gets heads and a cam, and a PC5

2333

Hi all. Picking the bike up today. It was in for the DPS recall, and I had purchased a set of heads from Ken that had a different cams in them, so they were put in at the same time. I was going to do the heads last winter, but the only tuning available was the fuel pressure regulator mod, and that was not enough for the increased flow of the new cams. Now that Dynojet has the PC5 for the spyder with wideband O2 feedback, I put that in as well. Just for good measure, a Barnett clutch pack was also added. One thing kind of odd, it seems that 2333 had big valve heads from the factory. This was a surprise to Ken as well as myself. We thought I was getting bigger valve heads with different cams, but only ended up using the cams. It should run pretty strong with the 1080 kit and the 13:1 pistons and ceramic coated exaust, the Leo Vince can and the PC5, when I get it dialed in. Gotta go, the wife is calling me to give me a ride over to pick it up.

This puts you up to about 146 horse power correct?

That is roughly what the rear wheel HP (@6 pounds boost) with the turbo is correct?

I guess if both of those statements is true, then what is the cost comparison between the two? * Assuming the Turbo is an easier install than swapping pistons and top end.

I'm thinking the pistons and cams can be done for less than the turbo-- and *should* be less problematic.

Doing BOTH would be awesome--- but that rear tire still can't grab enough-- need 3-wheel drive!

I have to ask before someone else does...

What kinda mileage do you get with that?

:joke:

Hi again. Picked up the bike. Still l a long way from dialed in, but, WOW. This thing is a beast. For some frame or reference on my expletivies, let me tell you all what else is in the stable. This is NOT intended as boasting, just as a frame of reference for what is my automotive context when I say that this thing is a BEAST. 04 Dodge Rumblebee #1638, 426 hemi small block from a bored and stroked 6.1. 08 Vw R32 #3626, Schrick cams, GAIC engine and trans flash, Neuspeed CAI and Cat back. 73 H2a, FBG stage three with Lectronns and extended swingarm by Bill Wirges, Wirges pipes and LTD 900 brakes on Performance Machine wheels. 98 Suzuki Bandit 1200. Lowered gearing, Yosh RS3 ceramic coated. Wideband O2 sensor for tuning,. Aluminum swingarm. Done up as a srteetfighter. Again PLEASE do not judge me on this list as a braggart, I just want to say that this thing is a BEAST. For a NA spyder.

I remember now, you were the gentleman that responded a ways back when I was considering the big bore kit and the question of how to get it tuned came up etc.

First off, congratulations on finding the components required to get the job done! I tend to think like Dan, that not only can this be done for a bit less than the turbo but it will probably be more reliable in general and less abusive to the rest of the engine because you have enhanced the core and are making power from the core. Dan, I don't know if you agree fully with that but that is my take on it.

Now for the practical side of things... How much of this new-found power is actually useable? Do you think you will be able to hook it up and actually get full benefit from it or are we hooking up to a point and then frying tires? 146 HP sounds fabtastic, but only if the machine can actually put it to use! BTW, I think you were very smart to get the Barnett clutch pack. I think that will go a long way towards improving reliability whether turbo or core enhancements are done. Doc pretty much validated the Barnett clutch already!!

The other thing of course is that I do not see how this will affect handling characteristics other than to make things even more of a handful without significant suspension upgrades, and even then... I know you just got her so I will be very interested to see how you assess the machine's road manners.

Never the less, I congratulate you for taking our V990 and getting the kind of power out of her that we all just dream of! Good on ya, mate!! Please keep us posted.

:agree:

Need to update suspension to help handle extra HP

Hi all. Thanks for only judging me as a Hooligan. There is considerble money involved here, and my intent was only to give others a frame of reference for what it takes to call something a Beast. Anyway, about the suspension. I have the Penske setup rom Ken, as wll as the stabilizer bar. The bar is a no brainer, and ANYONE who is interested in making an otherwise stock spyder corner better without triggering the safety nanny should do this mod. Not consider this mod, just do it. The thing can be installed by anone capable of sharpening there own lawnmower blade, and is BY FAR the best bang for buck mod I have done so far.

Hey Rator. I get what you are saying about the polwer being usable. With the 13: overbore motor last year, I could easilly get rubber in first and second. But now, with the new cams ans tning, the power bandseems to come on higher in the rev range, kinda like what was neede with the original setup.

I don't know what the hell happened. I was trying to correct my usual myriad of typos, and I got kicked out before I could make my changes.

Maybe I missed it, how does it run with the new mods? I'm very excited to see what kind of gains can be had n/a, i feel like the ONLY issue holding us back at this point is ecm tuning, if this new system works it will open up a whole new world of options.

Really want to know how the PC5 with auto-tune works out for you. Only know of one person out here to try it and they had mixed results I believe and eventually got rid of it.

Judging? We do not need no stinking Judging... We need pics and part numbers!!!! :ohyea::ohyea::ohyea::spyder2:
