There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

'21 S2S with Erratic windshield operation - Any ideas?

My power windshield goes up as it should, but when I lower it, it goes back to full up when I release the switch. If I lower the screen and quickly tap the switch to up, it will stay wherever I’ve set it. I've also noticed that it did not retract a couple times when I turned the key off. Any ideas? Reading the manual didn’t clear anything up for me. I mean, up should just go up, and down should just go down, right? This is my first Spyder, so I have nothing to compare it to.

I have a 14 RT and mine works differently .... where I leave it that's where it stays .... I have read about what yours is doing, from other owners ..... Someone will chime in on the procedure needed to corrct this ... Mike

Bryan, that is definitely not how my ‘21 RT screen operates. Mine operates as you believe it should.
When riding, up takes it up until you release it, and it stays there. Down operates the same way. It definitely doesn’t raise itself.
If you have the screen raised when you power off the RT, the screen will return to its lowest level, and then return to the height you had it when you power on.
Perhaps the switch is faulty? But then, if it was simply the switch, you would think the screen would always retract when you turn the RT off? Hopefully someone has experienced what you describe and be along shortly. :dontknow:

Has anything been added to the electrical system lately?
If so, did the problem start immediately or shortly afterward?

If not, then it's most likely the switch.

By design, when you turn the key off, and then immediately depress and hold the UP button for about 5 seconds-ish (or longer), it cancels the auto retract. I always listen for that second relay click after the key is turned off. It is very faint. Then I know I can release the switch if I want to cancel the auto retract. So, Bryan, it sounds like you have a sometimes sticky UP contact in your windshield control switch. It is sometimes returning the windshield full UP, and well as sometimes cancelling the auto retract.

I really appreciate all the info. I purchased my RT last fall with 2k on the clock. The windshield has been goofy since day one of my ownership . I’ll order a new switch tomorrow and hope for the best. Will report back with the results.

UPDATE - PROBLEM SOLVED!! I couldn’t find a windshield switch in stock anywhere close, so I decided to open up the original to see if I could find a problem. Turns out the switch was pretty simple and easy to service. There is a thin bare copper bus wire that runs along the side and supplies 12v to the lighted icons on the switch. Mine was bent and making contact with the internal switch rocker causing the windshield to go back up after pressing the switch down. Pushed the wire a bit farther into the housing and away from the rocker and the problem was solved. Took 15 minutes start to finish, and saved $40 plus shipping. Hope this info will help anyone with the same issue. Thanks again to all who pointed me in the right direction.

Great bit of detective work, Bryan. Thanks for letting us know.
