2021 RTL - customer accessory power... ALWAYS SOMETHING

So I got myself the Zumo XT2 from Lamonster, and since I did not know better, I also got their plug-and-play kit.
It is supposed to have a male connector at the end to plug in the female one located in the bike (see Pics below).

Well, my bike has the housing, BUT NOT the female connector!!!!
I did find 2 wires (looks like terminated) hanging in there.
I checked with a multimeter and I have 12v from the ignition.


My questions are:
1- how the heck is the connector missing?
2- Has anybody seen this before?
3- does anybody know the name and type of those connectors?
4- Am I missing something?

Yes, you're missing something....the plug that was on the end of those two wires in picture 1. That hole you've circled in the plastic panel in picture 1, and that you show in picture 2, was just a place to stick the plug for storage...and kind of weather resistant. There's no power in there. Take a look - it's empty. The power comes from the two wires. The original plug was the one in this picture. The Lamonster harness was designed to plug into what Rick is holding in his hand. A female connector for that, and a male connector to just plug back into that hole. A hole that doesn't actually do anything but add support to the harness. Apparently, the previous owner cut the plug off and had something hooked up there and removed it. Just use those 2 wires for your 12v power and ground. Maybe Lamonster Garage will let you return it since it is not needed.

Those are my SAME thoughts... The only thing that does not totally add is that the previous owner swears that NOTHING was done to the bike after the factory...
I wanted to believe him, but he also told me that the handlebar is factory original and I'm having serious thoughts...

I was hoping to find out the name of the connector to try to get a female one and restore it to its previous condition...
Maybe the Lamonster people can help out with that, or as you suggested, take the harness back..

I'll just correct you about one thing. The factory connector that should go on the end of those two wires is a MALE connector, not a FEMALE connector. Look at that picture and video close. When not in use, the connector plugs into that female receptacle in the wall - the one you have circled - which seals around the rubber on the plug and keeps moisture out.

To use it, if you had it, you would remove it from the wall, and plug it into the FEMALE connector on the Lamonster harness. That powers up the harness. The harness also provides a new MALE connector to replace the one you just used, in case you ever want to add more stuff. Then you just daisy chain another harness to that one. If you don't need it, you plug it back into the female storage receptacle in the wall. The Lamonster harness now supplies those other connectors on the downstream side to hook up your stuff.

An idea for you - cut off those ugly butt connectors that you have on your two wires so that you have clean cut ends on your purple and black wire. Cut off the FEMALE connector on the Lamonster harness so that you have two clean ends. Get some waterproof, heat shrink butt connectors of the appropriate size, and minding your polarity, connect your factory wires to the Lamonster harness with the butt connectors. Now you have the factory style MALE connector back, and you can still use the other downstream connectors on the Lamonster harness. Plug your male connector back into the storage receptacle. Whenever you need to add more accessories, you just daisy chain on another Lamonster Harness.

GREAT idea!!!! I guess that I could also...
Remove the but connectors and go straight to the 2nd position of the Wago terminals in the Lamonster harness to feed it with power on ignition.
Connect the Zumo XT2 to the 3rd position of the Wago terminals in the Lamonster harness.

That way I would have the power to the Zumo XT2, a spare male connector and a spare female connector....

If anyone is just looking for the connectors type I think I found them.

my own harness, if I have it it's yours just say the word.

When I got my RT Limited the first thing I did was to install a Garmin XT package I purchased from Lamonster. It included the GPS, mounts and the harness splitter. Attached is a photo with the bodywork removed before I installed the splitter. If you enlarge the photo you will see the factory harness and the way it came from the factory.

Just thinking out loud: It's a possibility the dealer did it on delivery. Realized their mistake and instead of removing the added accessory correctly, they just cut the wires. Figured the customer would not look and catch it. Now the handlebars -- no clue.

I know on a new bike purchase I made years ago the dealer made a mistake and added a back rest. Once they figured it out, they removed the back rest itself but left the mount bolted in place. They did tell me so all was good. Wasn't long after I purchased a back rest and utilized the "free to me" mount!

Maybe you're actually the third owner and the one you bought it from is feeding you a line, or the dealer took it back from the first owner and let the PO think he was the first owner. What does the title history show? You can pay for one from CarFax, or look for a free service that might give you the owner history but want to charge for all the history details.

Still with a CarFax or any other service, you might not get all of the history, only what was turned in at the time of inquiry.
I had a CarFax report done on a vehicle which I went on purchase.

Two years later I get a letter from the attorney general of Ga. saying that my vehicle would be issued a salvage title as it had been stolen and State Farm paid the claim and had forgotten to report it.
At the time the vehicle was recovered there was some fire damage to it. It was repaired and I unknowingly purchased it.
I was offered 2,500.00 to cover the devalued value of my vehicle, which the attorney general approved, on my behalf, without my consent. :banghead:

Before anyone say's that CarFax offers a guarantee, it is only for a limited amount of time. After that you're on your own.
