• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2021 RT Limited Brake fluid

I had a brake failure light come on and was just a mile from home rode home and started researching.
What i read is you can get a code to see exactly what the error is....well i also read you have to hold 3 buttons down and it would help if you jumped up and down on one leg. Well apparently i am not coordinated enough to get a code.
So next check fluid level. Well this is a new bike 945 miles. I couldn't see fluid through the plastic so cleaned it and opened it to find the black rubber in both is deformed and will not hold shape. Look at fluid and it is the nastiest dark color I have ever seen. Now this is first time checking a spyder brake fluid and i am a girl (farm girl)......but i know how to check brake fluid.
So is this normal for spyder. I immediately closed it up and forget to get pictures.

Thanks in advance!

Any color darker than new brake fluid is water contamination and that leads to corrosion inside the calipers. A flush of your bike's brake system is on order. Use only a freshly opened DOT4 fluid. Speedbleeders make the job stupid easy and they are cheap. Find them at speedbleeder.com. It's best to phone in your order, so you get the correct ones. Check the operation of the calipers.
The rubber part has to be replaced - get it from either a dealer or cheapcycleparts.com. I hope this helps.
It appears your new bike was assembled by the very type that has me doing all my own maintenance. Some people should never be allowed near tools.

Get that Spyder to the dealership and tell them, don't ask, to flush the entire system using B.U.D.S. for the ABS module too, replace the valved rubber boots in each compartment of the master cylinder, and ensure them the job is on their nickel.

:agree: If it's what you say it is, take it back!!! If they give you a hard time take it some where else, that's a new bike and should not have been in that condition on delivery! If the color is not the same as the color of new out of the bottle, it's hosed, needs changing. If the color was ok, then I would say all you may need to do to get rid of your light is just a dab more fluid in the tanks, some times it only takes a cap full! The switches in the tanks are VERY touchy, and just a dab will be enough to solve the problem. Good luck

Brake fluid needs to be replaced but more than likely the rubber diaphragm is fine. It is a single piece divided into a front and back section. It is designed in a way that a folded inner section can drop down as the fluid level falls. All that is required is for it to be folded up into itself again. I would check it closely for holes.

Makes me question did the dealer or owner leave the top off the master cylinder for and extended time or did it come from the factory that way. Since its a 2021 the fluid should have very little color to it at this point.

I second the speedbleeder recommendation. Just installed them on my 2019. All these years and I've missed out on this positive experience. BTW, my couple year old brake fluid was just slightly darker than new......... 27,000 + miles.

Thank you, Everyone!!! The dealer will be called tomorrow and will be sitting on their doorstep! They are amazing people to work with but this will be my first test on getting warrantee work done. I am sure it will be good! Since this was on the weekend i just didnt have anyone to ask to make sure!

I too agree with the aforementioned advice. To me, it's clearly a warranty issue. The brake fluid should be completely clear with a slight amber color. The darker the fluid, the more it's contaminated and needs to be replaced. In a normally sealed braking system it takes decades to get that bad.

I would wait on the speed bleeders for now. Your primary concern right now should be why does my NEW Spyder have black ink for brake fluid and what is the dealer going to do about it? The speed bleeders are only great if you are going to do your own service. If and when that time comes then you can see about speed bleeders.

On a new RT, the code faults are a menu option. On the joystick, press, then right toggle, then down toggle to the bottom menu. Press. It will display any active fault. 19 and older was the 3 button trick.
Concur, have the dealer flush and bleed. Joe

:agree: Totally agree with this post

I'm in agreement with K80shopter and the other who recommended taking it back to the dealer. In my comment in post#2, I was thinking he was going to pursue this on his own. Y'all are right, let the dealer sort it out and later, put a set of Speedbleeders on.

Spoke with the dealer and they have it waiting on new diaphragm. But he did tell me that this is an issue with the new Ryker brakes been draeing moisture. But this is the first new RT he has seen or heard about.
