• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2020-2022 RT Ltd mentor needed

Wondering if there are any 2020-22 RT Limited owners in NW Ohio/SE Michigan? Perhaps someone that I can call, or they come over if/when I have issues with the 2020 RT LTD i just bought.

Youtube videos are lacking in some areas. The owner's manual is next to useless. The salesman at my Honda/Kaw/Suzuki/Yamaha/can am dealer is lacking in sales guys that know anything about spyders. Only guy at dealer that knows is the token Brp trained mechanic and he's not available to talk as he is back logged on fixing other bikes, snowmobiles and water jet skis.

you will learn just about as much or MORE, just look at the site every day to learn something new. there will be somebody close to you, might not have the newer model 2020 model tho

Always Here to Help

:chat: There is a large group of the Spyder Forum Members ready to listen and offer You Some Help. Please feel free to ask any and all questions. Someone will respond when they have an answer for you. I have a 2016 RTL so some question may not be something that I could Help.
Ask and lets learn together. .........

Woodaddict is right. Even prior to purchasing our F3L, I was on this forum daily and still am. The old time gurus here taught me enough that I do all my own maintenance that the bike allows me to do. I learned shortcuts and work-arounds that make things easier and longer lasting. I also gleaned riding tips from them too. Now I help others.

I completely understand your request. Good luck finding a Spyder buddy near you with interest and technical skills.

Salesmen lacking in knowledge? Token trained mechanic? Next to useless manual? And you still bought a $28k machine from them?
With all the negative quotes you posted, my question is, why did you buy a Spyder RTL and buy from a what sounds like less the reliable dealer?
Just asking

1. I'm familiar with the brand having a 2008 GS SE5 June 2009 until last week. Finding out the 2020 RT is not as simple as the 2008 to dope out.

2. Unfortunately, not enough Spyders are sold in Toledo Oh to have a dealer with a lot of trained salesmen and mechanics. My local dealer is a Honda/Yamaha/Kaw/Suzuki/Polaris/Indian/BRP dealer. Nearby dealers in Bellville Mi and in Plymouth Mi went belly up 10 years ago. The next nearest dealer is in Dearborn Hts MI, an hour away. This local dealer does good service work but having a readily available guy to talk is not possible.

3. Useless manual: vague instructions on using the radio/GPS system, for example. Pictures grainy.

4. Yes, I can post here and get some answers. But nothing beats finding a local guy, making a pal that can face-to-face help with questions. My Harley and Honda Bros have no problem finding a "wing man".

5. So back to my original question, are there any Spyder guys in NW OHIO?

:coffee: Well I think that someone will come and answer all your questions. Hopefully someone will be in your local area.
Someone give us a shout when you're free and able.
Thanks........

One of the best mentors you can find on this web site is the third advertiser from the bottom of the Home tab, Joe Meyer. Yes, you have to ring him up but if you do he will do his darned best to help you solve a problem.

And both he and Anne are very friendly and open and love to help spyder owners.

I was in your shoes last summer. Dad traded his 2015 RT with 123000 for a new RT series. I can tell you this………….besides the plastic being removed and the linq system the motor setup is virtually the same. The major components are in same location just run a bit different. Watch YouTube on how to strip the plastic. That’s the intimidating part. New fastener types, new techniques not just the old push pin. Once the plastic is off, honestly everything is the same if you simply take your time and trace everything back. Just look and study it. Take lots of pictures as you go with your phone and honestly like others have said, theses guys are your best mentors. YouTube is your best friend. Hopefully you’ll find a new one close. Finding buddies to ride with is easy. Finding someone to wrench with is easy. You don’t need to have same machines to wrench with. My buddy has a Yamaha SXS and I have a can am SXS. he comes over or I go there and w just work together wrenching. Once the plastics off, the machine is a machine. Slow, document, think, plan, perform and repeat. Learn together. I bought a new G4 sled this year. Neither my son or me have ever touched one but we sat there watched some videos and learned together and in 2 days had it almost stripped to the frame and installed all new shields and accessories and put it back together without loosing or having extra parts left over. You’ve got wing and Harley buds? Use them to start. Half the fun is exploring and learning.

I can relate to Obiwanbill, nothing like 'show and tell hands on'. I tackle my first oil change soon I'll be having my You Tube close for a step by step. Get out the old car ramps and have at it, at my creaky old age I don't relish the thought of getting up under and pretzel configurations, but if it takes two days or a week, I'll get it done. I just made a move to Sebring FL, so I need a little recovery time. Wmoater had a good comment just above mine.

If you're willing to do a little work, you could try searching the member list for folks who are in your vicinity and contact them by PM.

Seriously, Pontbrba? Obiwanbill has not owned a Spyder previously, so how does he know what questions to ask to check your salesman’s knowledge? Nor would he know how sharp and accessible his Spyder mechanic is, until he starts to use him, and you don’t get to see/use the manual until you have bought the Spyder. If you have previously purchased a Spyder then you know the right questions to ask, pre purchase. Otherwise, how do you know what you don’t know:dontknow:.

Harsh!

Just ask. PM, text, call. I’ll try to help. Number below. Have fun, don’t be afraid. Good machine. Needs nothing to start. Just ride. While waiting for spring, wax and polish. Install any farkles you feel you must have. We did 10k last year on bone stock machines. The only thing I missed was a cup holder! On our 2020, it got LEDs, Bajaron swaybar, PPA wheels, Laam custom heated saddle, top box, trailer hitch, dual USB outlets, F3 handlebars, backrest, accessory light in front, gold plugs in the drains, Federal Formoza’s up front, general Altimax RT43 out back, phone mount on Ram ball, EBC brakes. AMSOIL, every change. Laser alignment, of course! And miles! Remember, these things are to ride! You can appreciate this “Ships are safe in port; that’s not what ships are for”!!! Shove off, Sailor! Ride the thing. If you break it, call me. Joe

Hi Obiwanbill, I bought a $29k machine last year and though I have 3 dealers near me, finding a bike was not easy. 1 of the dealers was new to CanAm and I knew way more about the bike then they did. Fortunately, they had the bike I wanted and, since no one knew they were there, it was available. So, I bought it. I expect many of us found themselves in that position. I have done a lot to my bike (as you will see in my description below) - and while I am in NY, you can always call. Send me a PM and I'll get you my cell.

Now there’s an offer you can’t pass up, Obiwan. Joe is one of the absolute best. I might have to buy him a house out here in Oz to see if he will change location. Boy, could we use him and Anne out here :2thumbs:
