2017 RTL Engine Shut Off While Riding

Been enjoying a used 2017 RTL this summer. Was riding a few days ago for about two hours, going pretty slow looking at something off the road, when the RTL engine shut off, display went blank, and the brake light/buzzer started beeping, I think because the bike was off, with the parking brake not set.

Of course the ignition key was on, and I was rolling down the road ...

A bit of a surprise, I should have tried to remember the exact display condition, I think it was completely off.

I turned off the ignition, turned it back on, set the parking brake to end the alarm, and restarted the bike and drove home.

Anyone else experience something like this ... bike shutting down while riding? If I had not been going slow things would have been more interesting.

and have a couple of STAR washers while your down there .... could you have possibly tapped the KILL switch accidently ???? .... Mike :thumbup:

I have the same question Blueknight has. I can tell you this...... I had my snowmobile straight up in the air in some serious powder and I leaned to far forward and hit the kill switch with my chest. She dropped like a ton of bricks and I was superman over the bars. Luckily it was 3 feet of powder so I just laughed. If you hit that switch its dead instantly!

Hitting the kill switch will not make the display go blank. At least it does not on mine either when I've done it accidently or intentionally when refueling.

Checked the battery terminals, they were tight. Hitting the kill switch does not turn off the display. Thinking back on that day, when I went to start it I turned the key to the on position and did not notice for a bit (I usually turn my attention away from the display during the boot process) that the display never came on. I wiggled the switch slightly and on it came.

I am thinking the ignition switch was a little flakey that day. I'll keep my eye on it for sure ...

Thanks for posting ..... Hopefully one of the wire connections to the switch is not loose .... if it is, imho I think it will eventually come off :gaah: .... I advise you to find out how to remove your ignition switch so you can check this Now ..... good luck ... Mike :thumbup:
