2016 Spyder F3-T

I have a dumb question, yup, I figure there will be plenty of ribbing about it. Bring it on, so long as someone can help, lol.

I have a 2016 F3-T, in which I removed the battery for the Winter. In doing so, I dropped one of the terminal bolts. It dropped into the undercarriage of the bike, to which I can not see or locate it. It did not go through to the floor.

Is there any easy way to find the bolt? I can't see how to access any of the lower portion, due to the many shields or coverings in place. Are any of the underside covers removable?:dontknow:

It's not like I can pick up the bike, turn it upside down, and shake it 'til the bolt falls out. :roflblack:

The bolt itself is no big loss, but where it went might be in a place it could possibly chafe wires or the radiator hose.

Any advice on finding the bolt, and removing it, without stripping the entire front end of the bike?

Yep, spyders swallow bolts...

We have found some by waving the magnetic wand all around - usually works, unless the bolt has hidden itself really well.

Speaking of Lost Bolts.....

I lost one of the instrument panel bolts when installing my dash power recently. Fished around with the magnet and never could find it. I think they are the same as the bolts for the body panels. Where is the easiest place to pick one up?

Bolt

Of course you can't just tip it upside down by yourself. You need 3 people to pick it up and shake it. :roflblack: Sorry had to do it. Just go get another bolt and forget it. I have lost a couple in the Spyder and way to many to count in cars and trucks when I was a auto tech. It happens.

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately, Can-am used stainless bolts on the battery, which are non-magnetic.

Remove a body panel bolt and see if they match up. If they do, go to your local hardware store and match it there. If they don't have one, your local dealer should be able to match it for you.

Just consider it a good excuse to go to Home Depot and buy a new tool toy! I dropped the plate that holds the ignition switch to the handlebar. A Rigid brand inspection camera from HD helped me to find it with a few hours of searching! The Rigid camera is pretty decent, is low priced, and uses ordinary AA batteries. Comes in handy for other times when I need to see into a hidden spot.

$100 bucks for the Rigid camera. So not worth it for a 10 cent bolt, lol. Would be a great suggestion if I could convince the wife it was worth the money...

I believe you will find it in a space between what the factory calls a skid plate and the surface you see when looking through the front grill. If I remember correctly, the space is less than 2 inches tall, but it goes the full width between the radiators and about 14 to 16 inches front to back. The easy way to see that space is to remove the front grill. I found an extra battery connection bolt in that space when I was working on my wife's F3 Limited. Whoever assembled the machine out of the crate must have dropped it into the same "black hole" you found by accident.

Ha Ha - you haven't bought any in 10 years...... but if you go to any Auto Parts store and ask nicely I'm sure they will give one from the 20 or so batteries they have out back that are going to be re-cycled for the LEAD ( not the bolts ) ..... Mike :thumbup:

Yikes...!!

I go to extremes to find them. It's the challenge, I will not let the machine win or the black hole it fell in. But because of this I have learned to cover all holes when working on these roadsters...

H2O is spot on, Darkman. Take your front grille off (pretty easy, and give it a clean while you are there.). Get a long thin rod and poke it in the gap and wave it across the surface and you should feel the bolt. I was lucky......I dropped a normal one and was able to get it with a magnetic wand !

Remove a few of the bolts of the so called "BRP skid plate". You will find it and can get it out. Don't ask me how I know.
