There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Hello All,

I respect all the info that I have read and received so thank you all !!!!!!! I have read may posts here as to when and where people are shifting the 1330 engine..... For the first few days of ownership I was running in the eco mode and following the shift points that the bike was telling me and I felt I was shifting way to early...... I understand that, is done for mileage and such...... Since I have turned it off and have found myself shifting at about and or around 3500 to 4000...... Anything above 4300 or so I feel like a am revving and riding at to high of an rpm......... As I have read people running in second gear at 45 miles an hour and at 5k and above....... Just don't wanna blow up this expensive machine..... I have also read the Do's and Dont's and the owners manual which says really nothing about reccomended shift points, so therefore I turn to the more experienced riders / owners........ Also let me say I love the bike !!!!!!!

Let me say Thank you to those who respond in advance as I look for to the knowledge that I have learned here both before and after my purchase !!!!!

Thanks again,

:welcome: A similar question popped up yesterday.

Here is what I wrote:

The bottom line for shifting operation:

998's Two cylinders--recommended is operation range in the 5,500 - 6,000 range. At 60 mph or so--in 5th gear--you will be humming along in that range. Faster--and the rpm's will go up--which is okay. Red Line is just a bit north of 9,000.

1330's Three cylinders--recommended is the 3,500 to 4,000 range. This one has six speeds. 60 on the highway, and it will be running about 3,500 rpm's. Red Line is just a bit north of 7,500.

Each :ani29: has its "sweet spot." Find yours, and you will have seamless shifts up. I let it shift down on its own 98% of the time.

I have one of each flavor.

The do's and don'ts are very good information.:bowdown:

The 1330 is pretty forgiving. You do not need to bring it up to sixth gear for lower speeds. You are not going to "blow up" the engine if you keep it in the 3,500 to 4,000 range. It has a 7,500 rpm red line and an automatic limiter. Sixty five mph and sixth gear will get you about 3,500 rpms. Go faster and it will slowly rise. You need to get over 100 mph to reach the red line area.

I've found that the sweet spot to shift is 4k rpms for all gears. Although, I do bump into 2nd gear a bit sooner than that. It's becoming more of a "sound" thing, than an "rpm" thing. You'll get used to it

:D I'm the "low & slow" guy...
2,000 rpm shift-point into second and third
Fourth, fifth, and sixth get grabbed at 2,500 rpm.
Smooth as butter! :ohyea:

But that doesn't matter; as long as you find what works best for you!

It's a bit hard ....but :agree::agree::agree: .... however I like to shift at 2500 ALL the time in normal riding conditions even in ECO mode ............ But when I'm in the twistie's 5 or 6000 is sweet ...or when passing........jmho .... Mike

shift

I shift around 4000

See the upper part of the tach display......where the numbers are RED......
You won't "blow your engine up" until you get it up there, and probably not even then.

I am most comfortable between 3 and 4K most of the time; a little less sometimes and a bit more sometimes.
I find that I use 6th as a true overdrive only on the highway above 50 or so.

After you have ridden for a while you will find what seems "comfortable" for you.

P.S. This question has been discussed MANY times on here already.
It is a nice courtesy to search the previous messages before asking a repeated question.
