2016 F3-S vs 2022 F3 - Not sure which one to buy

So... I'm eager to buy a new Spyder F3 for lots of fun... however I have a dilemma.

On one hand I have a dealer with a 2016 F3-S for $16999 (White body with black details) with 6k miles on it... It's beautiful, stylish, and fits my wife and I.

On the other hand, a new 2022 F3 is going for $17999... It is all black (not necessarily a bad thing) and doesn't seat two (but I can upgrade the seating right?)...

I've compared both specs and they are nearly the same except for the front shocks on the 2016 F3-S and the weight difference (few pounds).

I look to take this thing out on the road, in the hills of CA, on the coast and maybe do a little touring (however I do not prefer the touring styles - might even keep the windshields off for style).

The way I see it, the seats for the 22 F3 cost an extra ~$1000 but the bike would come with a 2 year warranty and would be brand new. It seems like the no brainer given that it's $2000 for a 6 years difference in model... However I don't see much of a difference between the years.

Can you help point out any differences I don't see, any concerns I should have, any advice or experience you have would be great.

Help me get out this web and on a spyder!

Buy the new F3 and don't look back. The S model has cruise control, a different display, sport mode, different front shocks and a 89t rear pulley for a bit more accel. That said, the biggest thing is cruise control and it CAN be added with the F3S control for about $250 + labor. Add a Pedal Commander and the F3 will be a hoot. My .02

Thanks for your thoughts!

QQ: Is sport mode available on the 2016 F3-S and is that where you can turn off traction control? Any other features to the sport mode?

:agree: ..... #1.- that 16 is over-priced, your going to get a hugh depreciation loss ... #2. - you appear to be New to Spyders, how positive are you about liking it ???? ..... #3.- there's almost zero difference Speed -wise between the two, and for approx. $ 400 you could have Monster Fuel add 25 HP to the F-3 and that's HUGE ..... good luck .... Yes. The 2016 F3-S has sport mode. And yes, the TC is switched off but stability control remains on in case something too crazy happens.

No, traction control cannot be turned off on the 2016 F3S. That did not come until the later models. But i do agree that you should go with the newer bike, as the 2016 is overpriced.

So other challenges to consider, no one really has the f3 in stock at least not for another 2 months...

As for the F3-S being overpriced, on cycle trader and craigslist all I see is similar pricing for the same bike, in the range of 16000-18000... so is it really overpriced or is that reflective of the market?

Hmmm .. Article must be wrong :( https://paultan.org/2016/07/01/2016... entertaining, whether on two or three wheels.

Looking faithfully similar to the concept trike, the 2016 Can-Am Spyder F3-S lets the ride let loose with “controlled rear tyre spins,” while maintaining vehicle stability. Manually activated, Sport mode switches off the Spyder F3-S’s traction control.

However, the stability control remains activated, preventing the Spyder F3-S from rolling over. Can-Am claims the 2016 Spyder F3-S produces 115 hp and 130 Nm of torque, certainly enough to be entertaining, whether on two or three wheels.

"so is it really overpriced or is that reflective of the market?" Yes and Yes

Depends on where you are--I've seen them in stock at dealers around me (the local mega dealer group has 2 F3-S and 5 RTLs in stock and ready to go). The used market will change quickly as the 2022s (with all the parts) start showing up on more dealer floors.

For the original question, I'd go new (if the wait isn't too long)--$17k for a 2016 is too much for me. These things can be expensive to repair, so having the 2 year warranty is a good thing.

Just looked at Operator’s Manuals for the F3 series. 2016 has no mention of Sport Mode. 2017 (F3-S models only) has details for activating and deactivating Sport Mode.

I agree with the other guys and go with the newer model.
When I was looking a few years ago, I almost bought a used model. I'm so happy that I decided to go with the new model. I have not looked back since. Something to be said about a warranty and peace of mind knowing that the way the cost of things are nowadays you won't have to worry about it for 2 years. Good luck on what ever you decide.

As others above have said. Buy the new one. The 16 is overpriced. For $1K more you get new, new warranty, etc. Go for it.

Given the choice, go for the new. The warrantee is worth the difference
I bought my 2017 F3T used with less that 1K miles.
Price was significantly less than what you posted.
It has the large sprocket and cruise control but no delete for the traction control.
Cruise control is a wonderful addition for touring.
You won't go wrong with either bike.

Yep, the article is wrong. The first versions to come out with the deactivation of traction control was in 2017 when the Daytona 500 version was introduced. I believe it was made available for the other F3S as well. 2017 is also the first year that the F3 was detuned to 105 hp.
As for pricing, I paid under $13,000 for a 2016 F3 Limited, Special Edition, with 3700 miles in excellent condition. So yes, there are good deals out there, just need to know when and where to look. And most of all, but ready to purchase when the deal hits.

Order the new one. If the older one was 10K less, ok. For a couple of thousand, it’s a no brainer. Newer is better!
