I asked the dealer this weekend about different hand grips and was told they didnt think I could replace the factory grips and still have heat. Is this the case? Has anyone switched out their grips?

There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Why would you want to? Mine work fine. Plenty of heat on high setting. Maybe something wrong with yours??

NO they work fine but I am not in love with the stock grips. I like kuryakyn grips. Just wondering if I change them out will the heat still work.
There was a recent post on Girls on Spyders on this - as I recall the "clamshell" grips (honda goldwing GL 1800 / kuryakyn) are the ones to get, and the person posting said they could have had heated ones but chose not too.
Lots of reasons for new grips, and I hope you find what you want.

yes the kuryakyn grips will work. you will need to modify your grips a little but they will work. now will they heat up as much as your stock grips? my experience was not as much but they were fine as far as I was concerned. ymmv

I had the Kuryakyn clamshell grips on my Goldwing and they blocked most of the heat from the heated grips. Before I put them on, a heat setting of 3 out of 5 gave me plenty of heat and kept my hands warm. After putting on the clamshell grips, I could barely feel any heat with them set to the maximum setting of 5.

They CANNOT be replaced, but you could add something like Grip Puppies if stock are not comfortable and need something thicker

You can go to LaMonster's site for some description of how he installed the Kuryakyn clamshell grips. These are designed to go over the Goldwing's heated grips. The part number for the black ones is 6383, don't know the number of the chrome version.

Once they're installed, these are very fat grips. Works well for me because I often ride with my thumbs on top rather than wrapping them around. The heat still works although the new grips don't get quite as hot.

Yes, it transfers, but these grips to not get as warm as they did before I installed the clamshell grips. Someone in another thread stated that on high they got about as warm as they used to on low, and that is pretty accurate.

Yes the heat does transfer BUT because the grips are longer and metal, the ends of the grips now get wind over them and when cruising the air sucks the heat out of them a little. Thus they do not get as hot. I fixed this problem by taking some rubber inner tubing and cutting a 2" length. When it's cold out and I know I am going to be on the highway, I slip these over the ends of the grips now they get plenty hot! It does take longer for them to heat up but now with these end covers, they get almost as hot as stock.
