There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2014 STL, Correct Brake Fluid Cap Orientation?

GearHd

So I moved our 2014 ST Limited around the garage today and notice a couple small drips of brake fluid coming off the lower rear shock mount. I also noticed fluid running down the frame. So I popped the seat and noticed that the top of the reservoir was wet with brake fluid. Now I did some searching around on here and see people talking about the correct orientation of the caps. Can someone give me a verbal description or a picture of what this orientation is exactly? Thanks.

Look at the caps like a clock. Point the raised line portion (clock hand) as close to the 12:00 position as possible.

Thanks for the reply. Assuming 12 o'clock is pointing toward the taillight then currently the rear is at 3 o'clock and the front cap is at 7 o'clock. Now do I just keep tightening or loosening to get to 12 o'clock?

you want the pointer to point to 12O'Clock (or as close as possible) when it is tightened. (12 O'Clock is pointing straight back to the rear of the Spyder

Owners manual pg118-120 fyi is small slit on rubber inside cap looks like a V it goes on high side of the bike V pointing to front. If u had fluid leak caution its caustic & will eat paint. Very carefull adding some back, several say to use glass eye dropper

Your right....

facing the rear...the cap can go on only two ways. The ridge will point either to the almost 12 or the almost 5. Set the ridge to the 7 and twist up till it stops close to 12. I have found they leak anyway and for the moment place a paper towel folded and tucked at the back side of the reservoir...

Again, thanks for the replies. I'll reposition the caps. You'd think dealers would take care of that prior to selling the unit. I guess I expect too much.

I really hate to say this (but it is true), many of our Spyder Ryders know more about the spyder than the mechanics at the dealers.

My dealer (Pitbull PowerSports) is not only a dealer, but he also rides a Spyder, so he knows more than most dealers or their mechanics.

So I just got to looking at the caps. I'm assuming the diaphragms are supposed to have that "V" shaped cut in the center of them? That seems like a leak waiting to happen.

Its your bike

:agree: The more you know you machine the more you can take care of it make it LAST:firstplace:. Too many newer vehicles are made for small hands or certified techs only. :banghead::gaah: When Y2K scare was coming I thought I would be only one on road with my '68 non computer Ford truck. nojoke:popcorn:
