• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2014 ST Limited - Belt Tension Question

I think, but am not certain, that the drive belt on my 2014 ST Limited m-i-g-h-t be a little slack. Rationale? At certain speeds ... around 103 - 109 km/h (64 - 67 mph) the handle bars shake ever so slightly. Not a major shake; they just aren't as "smooth" as at lower and/or higher speeds. The only other way to describe the "shaking" is it is similar to an unbalanced tire. The tires are balanced, and the ST runs as smooth as silk at all other speeds.

Unlike other Spyder models, there is no belt idler wheel on my ST. I have looked at the BRP Maintenance Manual that I have and the way to measure belt tension is with some super-fancy electronic device that calculates the tension (please see the images below).

Does anyone know of any other way to measure belt tension? I'm used to motorcycles where you measured the "play" such as +/- 1/4-inch tolerance, etc. and adjusted the belt tension nut accordingly.
Example:
Drive Belt Deflection (with 45 N, 4.6 kgf, 10 lb force) Standard: 1.5 ∼ 4.0 mm (0.059 ∼ 0.16 in.)
