There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2014 Spyder RS Motor

I found a used one with only 2000 miles but it has the 998 motor rather than the 1330. Is this a deal breaker. As a side note it is really tricked out too. Great looking bike. Thanks Denzil

RS MOTORS

Actually there are NO RS - GS - ST , Spyders with the 1330 motor ------YET :yikes:......................Mike :bbq:

The 998-powered Spyders are STILL pretty darn great! Don't let the engine put you off; they love to rev, and are lots of fun!
If you want a 1330; you have to want either a post-2013 RT, or an F3!

My wife and I both just passed our motorcycle class this weekend and as a result she wants her own. I can't blame so we are now having to look at used rather than new. This is a great looking bike but has never been on our list. Is this one of the bikes that you sit with your feet somewhat behind you.

All of the above...

Maybe some day but for now RT and F3 are the only ones with the 1330 engines. I'm an RS fan so know my opinion. Your best bet is to have a test ryde on each to get a better idea and proof positive....congrats to you both on your passing the test...:2thumbs: shopping is always fun but time consuming...good luck...

I'm an RS guy as well. I have ridden an F3 and I just don't like the feel. As for the 1330 I think it is a great idea and the lower RPM range is cool for cruising around town. Out on the open road I can tell you that the 998 moves like a son of a gun and as a high rpm motor gets my Spyder from 50 to 100 in no time flat. I just hit 9,000 miles so I have years to go on my bike. If I was to replace it I do like the F3T Bagger look.:doorag:

As others have mentioned the RS only comes with the 998 engine and I for one hope it will never have the 1330.

The 998 is (very) detuned version of the motor in an Aprilia 998 and so likes higher revs and matches the road/sports bike feel. The 1330 has more low-end power so is better suited to the RT and F3 riding styles.

A telling difference is that the RS has a faster 0-60 time than the F3 despite the smaller engine (and a lot quicker than the RT 1330 of course)

Of course what I really want BRP to release is a RS with a tuned up version of the 998 engine

Think these are very misleading, maybe if your over 6 feet but i had an RS and was much more leaned over than displayed. More like a sport bike where as on my RT i am much more comfortable. However to your original question the engine should not be a deal breaker, as everyone said the rs is faster, at least on the low end for sure, just less weight and wind drag. Just depends on what you want, the RS is exactly what it says, more sporty, no radio, cruise control, not as comfy etc. The RT is for cruising but still can runs pretty much better than most cruisers in the twisties.

My concern is that my wife had a knee replacement 7 years ago and is having ortho on the same knee tomorrow and I worry that her having her knee bent all the time while riding will not make for a enjoyable time. I have no experience on which to base this idea it just seems logical and she really like the bike.

You can put floorboards on the RS so she can move her feet around.

If she would rather not have her knees bent then look at ST models. ST models have floorboards and knees are about at a 90° bend. I have had both hips replaced and both of my knees are shot. Riding my ST-S SE5 is one of the few things I can do without any leg pain. The ST also has the 998 V twin, it is plenty quick and a real blast to ride! Happy hunting!:thumbup:

I would then look at left over 2015 F3 models. I think it will be much better on her knees. There are some good deals on the left overs. I have arthritis in both my knees and when I sit on an F3 there is instant relief.
