• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2014 RTS windshield

The wife is having a hard time looking over the stockwindshield when it is lowered all the way down. So we are looking for a shorterwindshield that we can bolt on in place of the stock one. Any help, info, something to guide us in the right direction please?

Thanks

BRP makes a 23" (2" shorter than stock) vented one - in the accessories catalog I have it and it works pretty well

It's wholly possible to cut down the windshield yourself, should you choose.
I recommend a high speed dremel tool followed by a good sanding of the edge with a belt sander.
Some people have used jigsaws, but I haven't had much luck with that. The reciprocating motion could break the plastic. The high speed dremel almost melts the plastic.

My wife had the same issue. I went with the F4 short vented clear windshield. It is also wider than the stock. We get no wind buffeting with it and they stand behind their product 100%.

Just last Saturday while at the SOAR event as I was having fender lights put in one of the owners of F4 (booth next over) looked at my shield and told me that it was defective and replaced it at no charge.

I did not know about the defect until he pointed it out to me. He could have said nothing and I would not have been any the wiser. He told me that their customers should only have perfect shields and he wanted to make sure I had one.

Now that's what I call customer service:thumbup:

I cut mine down 2" using a power jig saw. I started with a Dremel, but it melted the plastic and glued the slot back together. I put wide masking tape on both sides of the windshield and drew the cut line on the masking tape. I also installed a Gold Wing vent in it at the same time. The jigsaw made a clean cut line and only needed a little touch up with a sanding block. I later added some chrome motorcycle windshield snap on trim to finish it off. Not difficult at all.
Your backup plan could be a 23" vented windshield from CanAm, in case you do break it, but you'll save considerable $$ if you are successful.

I had my Yamaha windshield cut down 2"

I took it off and took it to a local glass dealer and had it cut down 2", perfect cut and cost me $25.00

I need to cut the windshield down for my wife also -- so far, none of the replacement shields are short enough --

In the past, when cutting windshields, I put blue painters tape on first on both sides, and then duct tape on top to protect the surface and use a fine blade on the jig saw -- take it to the dish sander and finish smoothing -- I then take a match to the edge and use 400 grit wet/dry paper

Yardstick Method

So we did the Yardstick Method of determining the windshield height that I found on the "CaiSci.com " site and it want you to measure UP to get the right height. Wow that did not work well for us, we had to measure DOWN to get her to see over the top of the windshield. So what we ended up with was subtracting from the 20" mark at the top and coming up with a windshield of 16-1/2" to see over to the 60 foot mark, and 14" to see over to the 30 foot mark. So we don't want to cut the org. windshield but want to get a new one, so now where do we get the short of a one for her???????
Wow what a mess.....:gaah:

Why not take a look at E-Bay for one? Since you'll be cutting it up; try to get one as cheaply as possible... ;)
And please remember:it's much easier to perform the task in several steps, than it is to cut the screen too short in the first place!

ChrisW, did you get a shield? We can cut one down to any height you want. Our Sport model is 22" and can be stock width or wide. Let me know.

I will definately be checking into this. I just took delivery of my 2014 RT, and that was my biggest complaints. I am 6'-2", and with the windshield down, I am looking right through the top part where your vision gets distorted. It was fine on the open road, but not in the twisties. I compensated today by letting the screen up so that I was looking through a good clear section of the shield. I am coming off a M109 with a corbin fairing. I often used a 6" shield in the summer, but a 10'" in winter. It was just below my line of sight, but high enough to keep most of the wind off me. I also had a 15" that totally blocked the wind. I think the shorty windshield will give me what I like. Are they hard to change out?

I, too, would recommend an F-4 "shortie"! Excellent product and great customer service! I have one on my 2013 RT! Love it!

Shorter Windshield

I cut down the windshield on my 2014 RT-S by 3". Simply used painters tape on both sides, drew the cut line on the inside, cut it on my band saw and tapered the end of the cuts to match the flow line.
Cut very slow and very little sanding is lift to touch up after the cut.
Very easy. Have a go at it. You'll be pleased. No shattering or chipping if cutting slowly.

No blacklightning, they are not difficult to swap out. I will be posting our installation instructions on our website next week, and should have a video showing the procedure up soon also. Give us a call, you may be a good fit for the Sport Wide (22" tall & 5" wider than stock) if you don't want to look through the shield.

Good to know!! My wife will be starting to pilot our RT-L next year. She's 5' tall, so I'm sure we'll be looking into the same thing.

Don,

I was looking at your website for installation instructions for the Spyder RT and wasn't able to find any. Can you tell me where they are?

Thanks

Pam
