2014 RT Sway Bar or not to Sway Bar?

Ok guys for those of you riding 2014 RT's should I replace the OEM sway bar or not? I'm hearing the '14s are soooo much better than previous models so not clear if replacing the bar makes that much of a difference?

I have the RT limited and right now don't see the need to replace shocks or the sway bar. It handles better than the old 2012 with those added. Ride it a while and if it does not handle the way you like then make some changes.

I replaced mine with the hope that it would improve the handling on uneven secondary roads. It did help a little, but not a hugh amount like it did on my previous '11.

The '11 did not handle as well in stock configuration as the '14, but the HD bar and Elkas made it comparable . I'm looking for someone with Elkas on their '14 to try before I shuck out the big $$$ for them.

The '14, before and after the HD bar, tracks as tho its on a rail out on interstates and very smooth highways. These are the hwys I travel most so adding Elkas is not paramount.

As mentioned above, ride it awhile before changing anything; you might be totally pleased with it stock, as many folks obviously are.

I should add that mine has been laser aligned also.

Figure price versus improvement ..............

i opted to get the upgraded one and happy I did, little more stable on the highway, little better in the turns.

you only go around once, go for it.

same here

I agree, the 2014 does handle a lot better than previous models so you should drive it for a while to see how you like it

I opted to put Ron's bar on my 14 because I tend to be a bit 'aggressive' in cornering and just wanted to tighten things up a bit more

again, I'm sure for most people, the 2014 will astound you in handling and stability without the new bar...

:agree:

Installing the sway bar with 0 miles.

The sway bar will go on mine this week. As others have said it will not make a huge difference on the 2014 like it did on the 2012s and older but it should make for better handling in the wind.

Installed mine at 600miles

I made the sway bar change at 600 miles and I am glad that I did. It tightened things up and gave me more confidence riding and lane changing.

I put the BajaRon sway bar on right away on my 2014 RT L based on the performance it added to my 2012 RT L.

Didn't think twice about it. Good farkle to add, just like the bumpskid....top two farkles as far as I'm concerned!!

Good luck with your decision.

I have had a chance to ride my new RT long enough to realize a good torsion bar will help the 14 in the tight turns. I had both the Baja Ron Sway Bar and the Elkas with the heavy springs on my 11. It was really tight in the corners but too harsh down the straightaways. My 14 really rolls in the roundabouts near my house which my 11 could handle at 3 times the posted speed. I now have to hold it down to about 2x as it feels like it will roll over if I push it harder (I doubt it would but its hard to get used to now). I do not want to change the shocks though, the damping action is great and the ride is much smoother now.

I had 18 miles on my 2014 RT-S and during those 18 miles I was thinking about a sway bar.

Mine was installed by Ron himself. If I recall it was his first 2014 install. I would say YES!

Love that word. I have all 3 farkles coming in the mail friday for my 2014. Still on my first tank of gas. May get to fill it up again too. Lousy weatherman.

Was considering doing this since I have the Spyder up on the lift adding all the other farkles, but after riding it home (130 miles) in windy conditions I decided it did not need it. Rides and handles much better than my 2013 ST-L did.

Bought a new 2014 RT-S today guess I'll run her for a while then decide if an aftermarket sway bar is needed. Looks like from most replies the bar improves the handling somewhat on the 2014's. Have a two week trip down south in May & June to ride some great twisties so we'll see how she performs against Gold Wings. Should have the bike in two weeks, get some miles done, then taking the GWRRA Advanced Trike course then off to West Virginia, Virginia, TN, North Carolina, South Carolina and wherever else the roads take us.

Thanks for all the input, looking forward to starting another phase in my riding career.
