• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2014 RT Rider's Backrest Question

1. Does anyone know if this is an accessory option on the RT S or RT LTD?
2. Will water be able to enter the seat cavity where the backrest fits into the seat or is this area water proof?
3. Is the backrest effective?

Thanks,
Gerard

1. It is an accessory item.
2. It's not totally waterproof.
3, The BRP is not adjustable so it was not comfortable for me.
I returned it and bought a Utopia backrest, completely satisfied.

:agree:
I went with a Ultimate Seat.
I found the seat to soft and the backrest sat in the middle of my back instead of supporting the lower back...

It probably depends on your size. I'm about 5'7" and 170 lbs. The stock seat and backrest work great for me. In fact, it is so comfortable that we will ride for 200 miles straight and when I get off, my butt and back show no signs of pain. I do almost fall to the ground at first though, because it takes a minute or so for my legs to remember how to work again. When I ride a motorcycle, I usually come to a stoplight or something that causes me to have to put my feet down; which always keeps my legs awake. However, I don't have to put my feet down anymore with the Spyder :) so my legs forget how to work when I step back down on the ground.

Due to the design of the steel support that enters the seat port, it keeps the water out. However, no motorcycle seat is waterproof. Water seeps through seat fabrics, seams, etc...; so worrying about water leaking in through the port is the last thing to worry about. Whenever I wash my bikes, the seats are always the first thing I dry off.

The stock seat and optional backrest is the most comfortable stock seat I've ever had in the 30+ motorcycles I've owned. I just wished they made it heated. I added heat to the seat and both backrests for less than $70. Now the seat is perfect for me and my wife.

I will add a vote for the Utopia backrest.................I have done 700 mile days on occasion and it has made the difference!:yes:

I have the stock seat and BRP driver's back rest and love it. I'm 5' 11 1/2 " and it works well for me and my wife. Agree with Texas above about the need for a heated seat. Granted we live in Texas and it is usually hot but I got spoiled with my old BMW K1600GTL that had a heated seat and grips and those few months in Texas where it gets down near 30, those comforts were awesome.

6' flat out, stock seat and backrest. Very comfortable for me. My only complaint is the thickness cuts down available space behind it for my wife to put her stuff bag. The backrest I added to my 2010 had a purse kinda bag velcroed to the backside. She misses the huge amount of stuff that thing could hold.

I put an Ultimate Tall Boy seat on mine and didn't like the Ultimate backrest so went with a Utopia backrest (Ultimate has a post that fits the Utopia backrest)
