There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2014 RT 1st Gear

I have a 2014 RT (400 miles) and when I go from neutral to first gear it bangs into gear but have no problem shifting going down the road. I made sure that the foot brake is applied and my RPM are at 900. I let it run fro 5 minutes or so before I take off but even after 20 miles I can stop put in neutral then back to 1st and it bangs. I am calling it a bang but lets just say it hits pretty hard going in gear. Is this a typical occurrence or do I need to go back to the dealer again and have them look at it.

Thanks All

Hi Randy,
That sounds pretty normal...
I never thought of it as a "Bang", or a "clunk"; but it is a little bit noisier than the other gears. ;)

Same clunk on my 2014 RTS.

Mine does the same thing, and I have less than 1,000 miles on my new RT. I'm hoping it will get less clunky as I put more miles on the tranny.

I've been meaning to ask the same question as it does it on my new RT also. The 2014 is so much quieter than my old 2010 that I think it makes it more noticeable.

I have it both ways. Some days (like today) I have to look to be sure it is in first and other days there is no mistaking that it has gone into gear. I do not know why or even how to make it a smooth shift every time as it does not seem to matter how long I wait before shifting.

I was a little concerned about it after reading numerous posts indicating how smooth the transmission is on the 2014 RT SE6. Sometimes when mine changes gear I hear a mild clunk. Other times nothing. I make it a practice of not letting off on the throttle. As others are experiencing the same thing, I'm not going to worry about it.

They do seem to do that. My first shift of the day is always to reverse. Likewise on the clunk. Likewise on the clunk from Reverse to First.

Here's the thing..!!

Your engine is running at your normal rpm's. If your transmisdion is in neutral none of the gears are moving. So whatever your first shift may be you will get a klunk as the gears engage. Now once you are in any gear the transmission is moving and the gears when shifted rather than engage mesh together and no klunking. So think of it as 1st and reverse are sharp right turns the others are merging roads...

Just like most motorcycles, the Spyder clunks into first. Next time you are on a group ride listen as everyone puts their bikes into gear. Clunk, clunk

Our machine, even after several minutes to warmup clunks into gear when the oil is still cool and the clutch has not been cycled (had the plates unstuck).

After a bit of riding, our going from N to 1 or R is fairly silent and smooth. Probably on account of the clutch having been utilized and during the ride.

Sometimes, oem install judder springs to help with this or other clutch smoothness concerns. Not sure what is in the 1330 or any Spyder though from BRP regarding judder springs.

I am hoping ours gets smoother with the upcoming oil change.

Manual tranny clunks too

For what its worth - the manual transmission (SM5) clunks too, when going from Neutral to First. (especially if I forget to pull in the clutch :opps:)

Yep I clunk

On my 14...but not nearly as loud as on the '10...appreciate the info...I never knew why..just that it did. Now get me an answer for those :banghead::banghead: squealing brakes at very low speed. Nothing above 12 mph....and of course it is when I am around town...small town....comments like thought that was your new one...still squeals like your old one!!!! Oh well at least they know I'm coming!!

Makes a lot of sense to me

Yeah what is up with the squealing brakes? My 2012 did this on the original brakes as well as the new replacement brakes. Now my 2014 RTS is starting to squeal a little as well. Are there other brake brands folks are putting on their Spyders to eliminate this?
