There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. 2013RT LTD Oil Usage

My dealer says the 996cc engine should use about 1 qt every 4700 miles. Could I get a confirmation of this from other Spyder riders?

thanks, Diggerdog

My 2012 never used any measurable amount of oil between changes. I also made sure it had a proper warm up before running it hard. I am convinced that it made a difference. I have a friend with a 2012 also and his doesn't seem to use oil.

2000 miles through Adirondacks and Vermont. No measurable change on the dipstick. 32000 miles on the engine. Just be sure to always check the oil with the oil hot after a ride.

oil usage

What your dealer told you is correct; I normally will use a quart between changes. I would expect 2-3 oz / 500 miles traveled. The new triples don't seem to use oil by all reports.

Will vary....

:agree: I have a RS 2012 sm5 and I don't use that much but they all do use oil. Many who will mention no use will be ryding the 2014 /15/16 1330 engines. Your dealer is right but the amounts will vary.

My 2013 RT Ltd uses about a quart of oil every 5000 miles or so, maybe a bit less if I'm just cruising gently & the roads/weather isn't hot. It might use a tad more if I'm riding it hard in pretty hot weather or fanging it a lot, but generally a quart is at the top end of its 'between oil changes' use.

Considering that they are an engine that uses a little oil between scheduled changes, & that only ever running these sorts of engines gently on short trips/runs will never get things warm enough to 'burn off' the accumulation of condensed water & volatile contaminants that will collect in your oil over time/use, you should probably be a little more concerned if your particular 998 Rotax doesn't actually use any oil between changes!! Maybe it'd pay you to give it a good run of at least an hour or so at a fairly good clip every now & then, or wind it out working hard thru the twisties rather than 'just poking along' reasonably often to see if you can 'burn the contaminants out' & notice the difference in oil use. After all, one of these motors that's not using a little oil between changes is probably either accumulating enough soluble contaminants in the oil to keep the oil level apparently OK, or it's just not lubricating everything properly!! :sour:

Docdoru once posted a graph that showed a leadkdown test on a 998...
It pointed to the fact that the Vee-Twin was gonna use oil.
Mine would also use almost a quart between changes...

The 1330? Not a drop of oil has had to be added to it!

Same here...

Samething for our 4 Spyders... and high rev and hard riding use more. Low rpm shifting also do use more....

Richard

Gratitude

Thanks to all fellow Spyder riders that responded to my inquiry about oil usage on my 2013 RT LTD. I will heed all the remarks...
