2013 ST Right Side Heat Deflector

Just curious BRP lists a Right Side Heat Deflector for the 2013 ST their parts list. Does any with a 2013 ST have one that came from the factory with this installed. Mine doesn't have this. Bought it used, from a dealer, so not sure what went on before I got it. It would have to help in sending the heat out the side instead of back on the foot and leg. In the pics the first 2 are what mine looks like the second 2 are from a 2014 ST but the parts are identical.

Just in case you want to check it out:

The parts you are missing came on the 13. You bought it used so it looks like the previous owner may have been tinkering around and removed them. I would go back to your dealer and see if they will replace them.

The right foot heat is bad enough with the heat deflected away. That must scortch your foot the way it is.

If yours did not have the 2014 air flow panels installed I would start a claim for that also. Those would be installed under warranty (if you still have a warranty)

Interesting..!!

As you say it does figure in the parts list. Someone may have removed it or it was added in later productions. Spyderpops (vendor on homepage) sells a similar deflector directing the air flow out the side and bottom. I have his heat management systems and have helped alot. Mine came with nothing (RS)...

In checking further, they show it on the RS 2012 as well but it did not come on the unit when I bought it new...:dontknow:

Wow that would be brutally hot without that deflector. It would have come from the factory with one. Talk your dealer about getting another one. Maybe the previous owner still has it? For the price of a new one it is worth the effort of a few phone calls.

I agree you should try and get the 2014 body panels with the scoops under warranty if you still have it.

My experience with my ST is that my feet are cooler on it then on 09 GS with all the heat controlling stuff from Spyderpops. That is as long as the lower side panels are installed correctly. When I was at the Lamonster BBQ, half the ST's there, the panels were not installed right.

The biggest issue I had was the volcano vent coming out from under the seat. I fixed that with some closed cell foam under the panels in front of the seat. I have since got the 2014 panels with scoops and that brought a small amount of the heat back because some of the foam I had added left with the old panels. I will have to seal that up again.

Thanks for the posts. I have had the upper panels replaced. Neither the dealer that I purchased it from nor the one that the replacement had heard of the heat issue. So guessing they wouldn't have noticed the deflector missing either. Looking into my options. Good to know I'm not alone.

I discovered from the dealer I purchased my 2013 ST-S SE5 from that the heat fix is not just replacing the outer panels. The service manager told me he has 28 to 30 some pages of instructions from BRP on what has to be replaced/moved to correct the heat problem plus replace the outer panels. Two things he mentioned was replacing the fuel system evaporator and moving the fuel tank up and forward. He told me that it will take 1 mechanic a full day to complete the work. BRP told me that any authorized Spyder dealer is able to fix this problem.

So, if you still have warranty you can get it fixed. Good luck! There are a lot of folks on here that have experienced the same problem.

You or your dealer is confusing ST and RT. 2013 ST is just replacing the panels to 2014 style under warranty if you complain. Takes about an hour. The recent recall for the RT is adding scoops replacing and rerouting the fuel and evap system.

I was repeating what the service manager at the dealership told me last Tuesday. I know BRP just released the instructions to dealers (5/26) to fix RT models. But since I have an ST and the service manager was the person that delivered it to me I figure he knows the difference. I will follow up with him on Tuesday, they are closed on Mondays.

Update 06/09: I just spoke with the service manager at the dealership; they are doing the same procedure on my STS as the new correction for the RT as released on 05/26/15.
This involves a new fuel system plus many other things which will eliminate all heat issues. Also will result in holes cut in the side panels for new air scoops.
Jury will remain out on this until I see the end result.
