2013 rss shifting.

Hello all. I just purchased my first spyder over the weekend. It's a leftover 2013 rss sm5 and I am putting the first miles on it as we speak. Now I have ridden dirt bikes,street bikes,quads..etc. but I have a few shifting questions I hope can be answered.
what is the bat rpm to take off at? I feel if I bring it up to about 2k ish it gives a little judder and gets going. I have been trying to find the "sweet spot"
when down shifting to a stop sign I seem to find neutral pretty easy...is that common or am I being light footed?
times I get a thud when shifting through the gears. Not enough clutch? Or am I being paranoid because it's my new baby?

Overall EXTREMLY happy with my purchase and I will be around to bug other members with questions. Thank you all

don't baby it! get on it and go. it likes it best when you run the rpm's up to the 6000 or even 7000 before shifting. keep the rpm's over 5000 in any gear! like I said, don't feel you have to baby it. :thumbup:

It takes a little road time to figure it out. I shift mine by feel. Far as pulling off from a stop again feel it out.

These are high rpm engines. You will get used to it but they won't blow up if you get aggresive. They have a rev limiter. 4,000 or more may be a good starting point for you it will stop the studdering/ thud you get. Hitting neutral on the down shift is being light footed. After a while you will find you will climb on the rpms to the power band around 5,200 +..welcome to the roadster world, your going to love it...:clap::clap:

You should use enough throttle and feather the clutch same as you would with any manual shift vehicle. Remember the higher the RPM the more slip the clutch is doing,unless you're racing.:roflblack: Again experiment,it'll come to ya. I noticed around town I shift around 3500-4000 RPM. Pulling onto the highway, 5000-7000 RPM. Now on my way home from work the tach needle looks like a dog's leg.

You'd better take your time, and Make sure that all of the..."errands", are properly addressed!

After 3 hours of "errands" the wife called and asked if I was ever coming home. Worked on shift points and higher rpm is the way to go. I found about 2700 is a good launch, I think

They're like any other vehicle......................everyone has their own riding style, and preferences. Sometimes I ride slow and easy, other times I rap on it!

That does not sound right at all. something is hanging up. I'd get that looked into.
The clutches on these machines are silky smooth.

HINT: If you're sent out for a shopping errand; mention that you thought it best to "comparison shop", so you went to all of the stores within a 100 mile radius... JUST TO BE SURE! :thumbup:

Drew it seems to be user error. Shifts like a dream I just am dogging it from the go.

Feather the clutch and get the RPM's over 3k at launch. It took me numerous rides in my first spring to get comfortable. Like others said you can't hurt it.:doorag:

I feather the clutch at 2000rpm. Pulls off without a grunt.
