• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2012 RTS runs like S***

I am taking bike to dealer this week. Any ideas before I get there? Bike has 3800 miles. Rode it yesterday and it acts like it is only wanting to run on one cylinder. Then all of a sudden it will come to life and run fine. Very intermittent problem. Can't establish a pattern. Thought maybe some of this great gas we get today turned to water, so I siphoned what I could then let the bike run out of fuel. Put a couple of gallons of fresh 93 octane. Seemed to improve but still drops in and out.

Spark Plug, Injector, TPS? Any ideas appreciated!!

Thanks

You have something going on causing the electrics to one cylinder to short out. Electrical gremlins are a bit hard to track (if one is non-mechanical like me). You have the right idea.

Those with more knowledge will come on with better answers.

ALSO

Did you try pulling up codes on the dash to see if the Spyder is telling you anything?

Bob

:agree:...with Bob because it could tell ExACTLY what the problem is .......But the plug wires on the Spyders are very suspect as a failure item if they have ever been touched by anyone ...............IMO.....Mike

Or those damn cheap carb vacuum hoses!

Bob

As mentioned, the vacuum hoses often fail and cause all sorts of misdiagnosed problems. My money would be on that, codes or no codes.

Bummer..!!

Have to go with the ignition problem. Sometimes it is easy to see posdible arcing with the panels off in a dark garage. It is worth changing over to the high tension cables and caps with the iridium plugs. (BajaRon) regardless. Its a nice boost and will no doubt fix your problem. Is there a chance someone has been nibbling on your wires..??

2012 RTS runs like sh#@ too

My 2012 is doing similar to yours. Runs fine 20 minutes or so then blubbers, wants to only run at higher rpm and dies at stops. Will not answer throttle but idles when restarted. After 30 minutes cool off it's OK again. Temp gauge shows lower than normal and speedo pulses at idle. Hearing of common problem with all 2010 to 2013 engines---we have two and hope that's not the case. Have spent a terrible amount trying to fix and no end in sight! I have changed my thoughts on Can Am products completely!

It is easy enough to check the vacuum hoses. I replaced ours proactively. One set looked ok, but seemed sort of dry. The other set on her Spyder had cracks starring to form on the inside curve.

I replaced them with high temp silicone tubing that I got of Amazon.
