• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

while on a ride the bike got stuck in 3rd gear and would not shift up or down .. i tried shuting it off and it started in 3rd and and ran in third and wanted to upshift but it stayed in third and no other gear .i took it to the dealer who says it has clutch material in the oil and reservoir and it needs to be replced at 15 k miles does thei sound right 569 for part plus install for a grand total of 940 and it may need another part for a total of 1299 it sounds like alot of money is the belleville motorcycle mall ripping me off?

A lot going on here. What else was checked?

Clutch material in the oil - how do they know? Did they do an oil change? Did you check the oil level when it was acting up?

Was the clutch slipping on the road, or dragging when you were idling? Any signs to you of a clutch problem?

First thing I would have checked is oil level. Next thing would have been if the shifter linkage had come off the shaft. Happens occasionally. This seems to point more to a HCM / shifting issue than clutch, but again, there's more information needed.

So, where's the machine now? Do you have it or do they? Perhaps the prices quoted aren't out of line for a clutch job, but the question remains...is that what the problem is? Perhaps you should get more definitive information from them to put your mind at ease. Are you concerned about the prices, or are you concerned that they have the correct diagnosis?

Cute Kid!!

Clutch issues 2010 RTS

I had clutch issues circa 3 years ago. Had a hard time getting out of first and I would have to get to circa 60 to get it to 60mph. Dealer said some of the gears were damaged and needed to be replaced. It cost circa $900. It has been riding fine ever since it was fixed.

Strange...

Seems odd at that low mileage. Did you try manually shifting gears..? make sure an actuator was not hung up..? a burnt clutch would give off some strong odors in the oil and blacken the oil if they checked that. Might be worth a second opinion and estimate. If it is so get your own parts and save a bundle..oem parts from cheapcycleparts.com. :gaah:
