• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

:sour:Last Tue. went out to ride, stuck the key in and it stopped short of going all the way in. Tried my other key, jiggled the key used wd40, no help. Called the shop and told them I was having it towed in. They said that there had been problems with the ignition and that they would call me thur. Didn't hear from them so went into the shop today. They said that the had been trying to get in touch with BRP with no luck. I came home, called BRP told them my problem, they gave me a case number. I called the shop back and gave them the case number. Two hours later the shop called and said that BRP would not cover the repairs and that they would be in the thousand dollar range. This is a bike with 7700 miles on it and I have to pay to repair a defective switch that BRP installed. Looks like I'm going back to the Goldwing.

:gaah::gaah::gaah:.......Even if worst case scenario you have to have the Ignition switch replaced and a Key Booted on Buds .......$ 1000 seems beyond reasonable or even believable ....................JMHO......Mike ...................................PS as with things medical I would get a second or third opinion on this

I think Blue knight has the correct approach. If my check of the parts manual is correct, the ignition switch, part #710002344, costs $209.99. How $800 in labor comes around I have no idea. Best shop.

I read a lot of these posts but never heard of ignition problems with the 2011 RT. Be patient to resolve this. Call BRP again and ask them if the dealer even called them. Also, I suggest not to use anymore WD40 in your switch (WD40 will collect dust matter and cause more problems)...if anything use a silicon spray and spray on the key only, let dry then insert into the ignition and gently push down. Also, if your steering is locked try moving it with the loose play it has when locked. You may be able to get it to work. Mine has not gone in a few times, but I was always able to eventually get it working. Good luck.

I believe the labor will be high. You have to pull the entire top of the bike off. Ski my video on installing the tri-axis handle bars and you will see what a job it is!

Bummer..!!

yeah the switches they had problems with were on the 2014's. The parts are not so much the problem as the switch replacement labor. You can get better deals from cheapcycleparts.com or ebay etc. If you do the ignition only you will have to use two keys on the RT's. Hard part for them is to determine if there was tampering (someone trying to steal the unit or forcing the wrong key in) or faulty part. Hope they do help...:banghead:

Call a good locksmith, they may be able to fix it in place. If you do get a key in don't take it out. You may want to get one of those IPS key covers. I think Lamont sells them. Good luck

My understanding is the complete ignition system needs to be replaced including the wiring harness. When my dealer lost the key while sitting on the show room floor this was one option. Tried to cut and program several different keys with no luck. Found out they were trying to program 2013 keys into a 2014 RT-L. Keys on the 2013 and prior will not work on the 2014.

I also checked with another dealer and was told the ingnition change would cost between $1100-1300. This was a recall on some models and it should never expire. Check your VIN with BRP to see if yours was one that was recalled.

Dudley's right; this is the first we've heard of a 2011 with ignition switch problems...
Mike's right; get a second opinion.
Good Luck!

Continue with working on a solution. I had problems on the 2014 with the ignition, but that was a warranty issue. No issues with the 2011. I would do some more trust but verify concerning your dealers response. Calling BRP and no response--does not sound quite right these days.

You will like your 2011 once you get the glitch worked out. Hang in there.
