2011 RT Limited Issues

I purchased my 2011 RT Limited in March and have been having some problems with it. Has anyone else experienced similar problems on theirs? See Below:

My digital display started to go dull then black and then come back on. I has been replaced.
The left turn signal sticks often and doesn't cancel and sometimes works OK. Still addressing.
The suspension buttons stopped working and when ever I press it, the module would not respond and show me a picture of 'manual suspension'. Dealer has fixed it.
The left speaker began popping occasionally at the beginning of rides for about 4 or 5 rides. Then the sound just disappeared one day. Speaker replaced and dealer thinks radio needs to be replaced because it doesn't work at all.
When using my ipod...the 'foward' button to go to the next song had a range of only like 15 to 20 songs and then would go back to the beginning (I have like 200 songs on the ipod). Never addressed this with dealer but hopefully this will be fixed with the new radio to be installed later.
My fuel gauge was wacky too. I would drive awhile and the gauge would have the needle close to red...I'd fuel up and it would only take like 2 gallons or so. Fuel gauge replaced.
Oh...and of course it has stalled out a few times at lights for 'no' reason. Seems like everyone is getting this one. The bike has about 2000 miles on it and the stalling occurred more in first 1000 miles but did it again a few weeks ago once too.

So that is what is going on SO FAR! I am slowly getting the bike completely replaced! I am thinking it is some kind of weird electrical thing..

Any thoughts? Anyone experiencing this...:gaah:

Sorry to hear of the difficulties, but it sounds like your dealer is right on top of them. The iPod issue may not be able to be resolved. There are limitations to remote control programs, and the remote may only be able to read a certain amount ahead in the playlist. I have had a similar situation with iTunes on the computer, so it is likely the nature of the beast, and inherent in the iPod rather than the Spyder. The stalling is a concern, and is not normal. Be sure your dealer has performed Warranty Campaign 2011-7 on your Spyder, updating the ECM for the throttle body programming. If your Spyder shows certain fault codes on BUDS, it will also need a new throttle body.

Welcome to SpyderLovers.com you've come to the right place for information. I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with your RT. I hope that your dealer is getting these resolved for you and that once they are fixed they won't come up again.

Sorry to hear about this stuff. Like others have mentioned stay on top of your dealer and make certain every detail is covered with them.

I now have 4,200 miles on my RT since I bought it in July and have seen no problems with it. My wife's 2010 RT now has 13,000 trouble free miles.

We have made sure servicing was done by our dealer at all the correct intervals and we have used the information on this site to have all the upgrades performed. Sometimes we have been aware of these even before our dealer such as the throttle body re-programing for the 2011's. As a result the dealer has someone assigned to checking SypderLovers.com regularly for new information.

I purchased my RT limited in July. So far, the only issue I have had is the left turn signal sticking. The dealer has ordered an entire assembly for this problem. Hopefully, that will solve that issue. I'll keep you posted. I just took the bike for its 600 mile checkup.

Thanks! Will address that update with them! Don't know if they know about it or not!

I do not have the limited, but the RTS and do not have the problem you mentioned with the ipod. I can scroll as it were through as many songs as I like. However if you are holding down the right button, (forward through your songs) it will change playlists. Ex. I have 10 different playlists and if I want to switch between them I hold down the right button in the cluster for a few seconds and the playlist will change, then if I hit it again I move to a different playlist. After moving to a playlist I have to wait a couple of seconds to be able to scroll through the songs in that playlist. Hope that helps with the Ipod thing.

Not that it helps with your problems, but I have a little over 10k since May and have only had problems with the CB accessory. I hope you will be problem free soon.

Left turn signal sticks

Can you elaborate on the left turn signal sticking for me? I have it happen often but when it is in the shop, it doesn't do it. The dealer told me they would replace it if it keeps happening, but have since backed away from that commitment. It doesn't happen every time but often enough to be irritating. They have insinuated that I am 'doing something diffferent' with pushing the button. I have told them about it 3 times and they have had it in the shop 3 times with no resolution.

Does weather affect it? Hot and humid? It would be great to find other people having this same issue so we can find out what it is.

Sticking left turn signal

When I used the left turn signal, sometimes it would work and sometimes it would not. I would have to push it in as if to cancel the signal and then push to the left. I was fortunate.....the mechanic at the dealership pressed it several times and got it to stick. He told me to keep doing what I was doing until the assembly piece came in for repair. They are replacing the entire piece on the handle bar.

We've put 5,000 miles on our 2011 RT Limited and it has been a champ. Both iPods work fine. Glad your dealer is helping you.

Does the button actually stick or the signals not cancel ? I've had problems with mine not cancelling at all sometimes even though the turn should have been sharp enough and the time period passed. I just started pushing the button straight in and caqncelling it when I use it. Don't make it right but it works and will wait to see if theres a fix for it later.

Sticking on the RT Limited

The button is not physically sticking. What is happening is on the inside of the assembly. Yep, sometimes mine would not cancel and I would have to keep pushing the button to get the turn signal to stop. Hopefully, the new assembly will take care of this problem. I'll keep you posted.

Canceling mine would activate the left turn signal. It was replaced under the factory warranty.

I have not had any of those problems but I have had this one. Sometimes the tach and the digital tach are not reading the same and this causes problems with shifting gears. It looks like the analog tach is off by approx. 1400 rpms. Once I turn it off and let it sit for a period then start it up it is corrected.

I just had to have my instrument cluster replaced because of this same problem. In fact, I am now on my fourth cluster, after the first replacement would not boot up, and the second had problems with both the analog tach and the analog speedometer. The one they put in yesterday seems to be working fine. Your dealer can order a replacement cluster and correct the problem. Be prepared...your odometer will revert to zero with the replacement cluster. I recommend taking a dated picture when you arrive at the dealer for the replacement. It is my sincere hope that BRP will come up with a BUDS routine to transfer the mileage at some future date.

2011 RT LTD POST

If I could find the email I sent to BRP V.P. After I purchased a brand new motorcycle out of the box, they delivered it to me and then 15 miles later stalled on me,,,, and in the next 35 + miles stalled 15+ times,,,, I lost count... I emailed the Dealership immediately of the situation and my bike spent more of the very first riding season in the shop than on the road. I was not a happy SpYder owner at the time. But my BRP mechanic "Gator" was all over it! I finally got my girl back and has been good until now. She has had a few hiccups and stalled out at very inopportune time once coming up to a stop light and once in a construction zone. But I did see the issue (I BE LEAVE) That was because my Digital display and my needle were off by 900 RPM, confusing the computer. My Girl is in the shop as we speak,,, so I will let you know what was up with mine.
