2010 Spyder won’t start! Got a new battery and put it in, everything looks normal, but only clicks once! Any Help?

Hi everybody, my battery went dead over the winter, so I got a new battery put it in the other day. Then I tried to start it and all it would do is click once! I have a 2010 RTS Spyder. When I turn on the key, everything looks normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did you put your new battery on a charger and charge it to full? Clean your cable ends too? That's all I can think of.

No I did not, when I turned on the key all the lights on the dash came on and the fender lights too, thought that was enough to start the bike, thanks for the feedback, I’ll give that a try!

Yep, lots of places say the battery will be charged. Famous words from sellers. You Need to fully charge a battery before using them. Spyders take a lot of juice to fire them up. So yep, charge it good. Then I bet it will start right up.

And if you have not put star washers on those nuts put some on them!!

Do you have a multimeter? You need to have a looksee and find out what the voltage is on that new battery.

I'll bet that if you load test your battery, you'll find it has 12v but not the amps to turn over your starter. Your new battery has been sitting on the shelf too long. A simple inexpensive load tester from Harbor Freight is a handy tool to have. It helps to solve a lot of problems. Good luck.

Most batteries are filled and charged by the manufacturer. They can sit and over time, discharge. This is why all of our batteries come dry. We fill and charge them when needed. That way you get a genuinely brand new, fully charged unit. It's a little more hassle, but well worth the effort in our opinion.

But previous posters are correct. Fully charge any new battery before use. If you don't, you can cause yourself some grief.

Ok, I've got the same problem. New Battery, FULLY charged. In N, lights, horn everything works normal but only a click when I turn the key on to start. Lights do NOT dim or anything showing low battery, it does nothing. What else besides low battery is the problem???

Some time we forget. Snowbelt spyder would tell you to make sure you do the basic things also when trying to start your spyder.

"If you have pressed the Mode Button in order to get past the Safety Card Screen to the Main Screen, and you have your foot firmly on the brake, you also need the Kill Switch in Run for it to crank. Kill Switch not in Run prevents cranking.

PS. And if a SM5, pull in clutch and shift to Neutral." let us know if that works or not then we can move on to the next thing.

Loose or dirty connection points will light everything up but will not carry the amperage to start your engine. This means both ends of your cables. They need to be shiny bright clean and good tight surface contact.

Not even a “click” - you missed a step. A low battery might click, the lights dim, the dash might even do some funky something; nothing like that happening means very likely that something was missed. Shut down, step away (a good distance) for 'bout 20 minutes or so, try again, & slowly step by step: turn key; safety screen & check list; button; kill switch to run; brake pedal; start button, no throttle.

As I said, its a brand new battery and checked and FULLY charged... @CopperSpyder hit it. I've never had to hit MODE to clear the screen of the message before. It always went to the Main Screen. I've put over 75,000 miles on this Spyder with no starting issues but staying in the Safety Card screen kept it from turning over. Thank you so much @CopperSpyder, I knew I could get an answer on here that worked!!

Are you running a tune on your bike, sometimes they can work you around that procedure of having to go through the mode button! If you have got 75000 miles and have not had to do those steps you have been blessed!! Glad you got it!
