• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. We are looking at a 2010 RTS that was taken in on trade at our local dealer. It has about 1100 miles on it. It is a manual transmission. What are some issues or problems that have been prevalent on the 2010s. We currently have a 2012 RT Limited, Lava Bronze. We will be keeping that, we are looking at the 2010 for the hubby. He will be selling his Yamaha Venture Royale. (Bob D.- the 2010 is Orbital Blue). We will be a 2 Spyder family! Whodda thunk!! I think it's going to be a looooonnng winter for the hubby if this goes through!!:yes:

We picked up our 2010 RT last spring and had a ball with it this past summer. Had no issues at all with it. It has about 18k miles on it now. Just make sure all the updates/recalls/etc have been done to it. I really like the manual shift (SM5). A 5 yr old Spyder with just 1100 miles on it sounds a bit odd, but I guess it's possible. Make sure it isn't on its second or third instrument display cluster. Mine was replaced just prior to us buying it

I had a 2010 RTS SM5 and it was pretty good. If the one you are looking at has factory shocks on it you might want to upgrade to shocks from an 11 or 12. The original brake pads were noisy and the gas gauge will probably start bouncing at some point.

Twice the FUN

We just added a 2013 ST-Limited to my already 2011 RT-S and when we ride now it just makes it twice as enjoyable..We also get twice the looks:yikes:..Im sure you 2 will enjoy:yes::yes:..As far as problems on a 2010 im not sure, but with only 1100 miles you should be good to go.. have fun..

With an older manual transmission model, you may want to ensure the clutch fluid has been replaced recently.

The 2010 RTs...
I had one, and loved it!
But it DID have some issues...
The aforementioned some front suspension is an easy one to fix...
But the throttle bodies...
This is the one that can become a problem...
I would have the V.I.N. checked by the dealer, and see if this is a bike that has been affected by the first year of "throttle by wire" problems...
Good Luck; I hope that it's the bike that makes your Husband wish for an early Spring! :2thumbs:

I have over 70,000 miles on my 2010 rt. The only major issue is a clutch replacement at 65,000 miles. I think some of the early problems were with dealers not yet knowing how to deal with them. I agree on making front suspension changes Elka shocks and Baja Ron sway bar make a great improvement. Have fun.

Thank you very much for your replies and input!! The first hand experience is what I was looking for! We've been riding motorcycles for many years and winters are always toooo long!! We love the 2012 RT. We bought brand new in Oct 2012 with 62 miles on it and currently have about 29,000 miles on it.

I also have the 2012 Lava Bronze Limited RT SE5 with 9,100 miles on it. I like that color. Has your bike given you good service with no issues during the 29,000?

I had a 2010 RTS put 42,500 miles on it before I traded for a 14 RTL. I had no major problems. I did put elkas and a swaybar on it. The handling was great after that up grade. The only major complaint is I kept having to put rear brake pads after about 10000 miles. the front I never replaced. Check to see if all the recalls been done.

I bought a 2010 RTS and put 25,000 miles on it with no problems. Really enjoyed it. Blue with white stripes on it. Mine never had a throttle body issue, that is about the only thing i believe caused any problems on the early RT's. It was a good spyder and ran great. I did replace the shocks with 2012 stock ones and also i installed Ron's sway bar. Handled great.
