• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2009 SE5 Owners still having shifting problems?

Mine is sitting at the dealer right now having break-in service performed. I mentioned the service bulletins to correct the throttle surge and shifting problems with the SE. Service tech said the Gear Position Sensor and Oil Pressure Spring replacement was only for the 2008 model (since it was designated as 2008-5).

The service bulletin 2009-1 only mentions updating BUDDS. Therefore, he said that was the only correction my ride needs. I am in disagreement, but will get the machine back this afternoon and see if the problems have been corrected. If not, I hope they will order the parts that everyone says have been the proper fix.

I have an 09 SE5 with 450 miles on it and the shifting is a mess. I came to a complete stop (gradual) in 5th gear. It gets stuck in reverse and I get an "E" on my screen. I called my dealer and he says that he has not heard of any issues. I have a feeling this will be a problem.

Got my machine back. No fixes for shift/throttle syndrome. Tech says he should hear back from BRP by Tuesday regarding software update or need for parts. Of course, they could not duplicate the problem during their test ride.

In the meantime, did order hindle for 475.00, and they will install for another 40.00.

Also, will install sportrack for 75.00.

They have some program that costs 24.95 per year and covers all routine maintenance. Sounds too good to be true (you know what they say about that). They will provide more details upon my return on Tuesday.

2009 SE5

I haven't bought a Spyder yet, although I demoed a silver/black SM5 back in September. My dealer now has a new Red 09 SE5 in his showroom, but all these posts regarding shifting problems are making me very hesitant. D. Reinhard, Ohio

I put money down on a 09 auto, I went down to the intl. motorcycle show in the twin cities yesterday, KTM new RC8 is crazy but the can am guy I talked to there didn't know how the trany worked, WTF I went back up to the dealership and talked with them about it and I will call up to can am on monday and try to find out what they did about the transmission issue. I was going to make a bracket for my quickie GT wheelchair so I could lock it in where the passenger seat is. Is can am admitting there is a problem with the automatic tranny?

My dealer is calling his rep and going to get the low down. I am seriously thinking of triking my wing, yes Hannigan trikes are flawless, and waiting a few more years until Can Am steps up and fixes this. The feeling of not knowing what she will do the next time I turn the key has left me sleepless on this deal...

This is likely the B.U.D.S. software that the dealer uses to connect to your Spyder terminal for maintenance and diagnostics. It doesn't fix problems though!

I've had nothing but problems with my new 2009 SE-5. I suffered through 1,800 miles with it, sticking in just about every gear, including neutral. Very embarrassing and quite dangerous when you are in traffic. It has been at the dealer now for SIX weeks and as of 2/13/09, no one can tell me when it will be fixed. :banghead:

That stinks. Can Am is starting to sound like the VA. They messed things up but act like they have no idea or just too bad. It's a shame as they would have an awesome product if it worked.

Hi All,

I bought one of the first SE5's into Australia in October 2008.

Had constant issues with shifting with "E" errors and locking out of and into Reverse and First especially on hot days (our hot days are 35 degrees C plus)

Had the Spyder in for service in January and the dealer replaced the Gear Positon Indicator, changed the park brake ratchet and updated BUDS programming.

Now she is as sweet as..

No issues at all. Everything works consistantly and well.

Hope you all can achieve the same result.

Cheers :2thumbs:

Took my SE in today for shifting/throttle problems. On the way there, after stopping at a light, spyder wouldn't shift out of first gear. Pulled over to the side, turned off engine and walked away with key. Returned to spyder, still wouldn't return to neutral. Finally retrieved the 13mm wrench out of toolkit and manually put machine in neutral. Made it to the dealer with no more problems.

Was told mine only required BUDS update. They performed the update in addition to installing a hindle exhaust.

On the way home, got stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. Spyder began stalling in first gear almost every time it came to a complete stop. Good thing one of the guys at the shop told me that the spyder will start in first gear if you apply lots of pressure to the brake pedal. I was able to restart in first gear without resorting to the wrench.

Finally, spyder got hot and went into limp mode. Pulled over and let cool. Restarted and was able to avoid stop and go traffic the rest of the way home. Looks like another call to the dealer will be in order tomorrow. I still think they need to perform the GPS and spring replacement. :dontknow:

Went to dealer today to pick-up stock exhaust that was replaced yesterday by hindle. Explained my shifting/throttle/overheating problems. Will take spyder back tomorrow for whatever comes next.

Its a BIG PROBLEM

My Spyder Brother, this is a big problem. The GPS system and the TCS needs to be changed. Spyder is not owning up to the issue. I recommend that you contact them directly and have them three-way with the dealer; immediately. If it does not rectify go with the Lemon Law. Thats what I am doing.

Tell the dealer to change the GPS and the TCS and go from there. I would do a three-way call with Spyder and your dealer. Six weeks is too long. Also, have the dealer overnight the pieces since it is taking too long.

Don't Do It

I will keep you updated with my shifting problems and will let you know if the latest they are doing to my spyder works. In the meanwhile, don't touch it.

Nope

Just wondering if they had fixed that "glitch". Any other problems from the 2008 they fix?

Thank you
Mine is at the dealer for the third time. I keep telling them what to change and they will only do one item at a time. Ultimately, there are several changes that need to be made.

For Degaman - Install the Hindle yourself and save the 40 bucks. It is very straightforward and no sweat at all. There is a post here someplace with pictures. Lots of luck!

:agree: This is one mod that is not hard to do...it seals on very tightly and you shouldn't have a problem...just be certain to take off the gasket that looks like it belongs...well, it does, but only for the stock exhaust...some here have had some leaks with the hindle, but many haven't...if you put it on as per directions and still have a small problem, a high-temp. sealant will do fine for you...

Enjoy, the hindle is awesome!
