• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. 2 RS's for 1 RT?

Considering the idea of trading in a 2009 RS and a 2010 RS for one new RT. Any thoughts? Has anyone done this?

Better question is why? If you want to tour around the country, then the answer for YOU is likely 'yes.'. If you like a more spirited ride and a more sporty feel, then no...

Why not trade in only the 2010 RS and work out a deal to get the RT anyway...that way you have the best of both worlds...

Each one you trade in the Dealer is making BIG profits because they are going to get at Least $1,500 -$2,000 more than they paid you for the Trade in and then they make the Additional profit on the New RT????
I have 20,000 Miles on my 09GS and it runs Great, The worst thing I could do right now would be to trade up considering its probably good for at Least another 40,000 miles or 3-4 Years!!!!

ya!

i agree!

The worst they can say is no to two for one trade. If the market is good in your area for used :ani29:'s then you will probably do okay. Keep us posted.

The dealer will definitely be happy to take them in on trade... and then not give you what they'd actually be worth out on the market! I'd agree with Rando; sell them outright yourself. It might take more time, but the extra money is probably better in your pocket than the dealer's.

For 2 up riding or touring, you cannot beat an RT. add Elkas and you'll still have spirited and sporty ride. I've owned both and cant tell you how shocked I was at just how sporty the RT really is.

Go ride one and see for yourself.

:agree: If I were you, I'd do what Bone Crusher suggests... then, if you get tired of the other RS, you can trade it for another RT later on, or even sell it on the streets.

Yeah, but....

We did it with two 08's but got more by selling them outright instead of a trade.

Rando is of course correct, in almost every circumstance you will get more by selling them yourself. However, then you have to deal with whomever shows up to your ad (usually not a bad thing, but who knows?), and depending on sales tax in your area, you may give up more than you made. For example, where I live in LA sales tax is 9% (:yikes:), so if I wanted to buy a bike for 20K, and had a bike worth 10K to put toward it, I could sell it on the market for 10K but then would pay an extra $900.00 in sales tax. By trading it in, I get whatever the trade is worth taken off my taxable total. So, if I got 9K on a 10K bike, I'm actually only paying $100.00 for the convenience of the dealer doing all of the work and taking all of the risk off my hands (see below). Of course if the dealer offers less you have to determine what his service is worth.

Total Cost Out of Pocket: Trade - $20,000 - $9000 (trade) = $11,000 + $990 (sales tax) = 11,990 By Owner - $20,000 + $1800 (sales tax) = 21,800 (total) - $10,000 (sale proceeds) = $11,800
(by owner totals do not include the price of ads etc. to sell current bike)

There is another option. I bought mine from a privite party in the LA area and I live in AZ. So there is no sales tax involved with an out of state buyer. You might want to list it on e-bay. Thats where I bought mine.

Big question for me would be if you do this who has to ride as a passenger and not have there own ride packing a passenger takes a lot of the fun out of riding IMHO
