• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Sounds great! If anyone was able to participate in the ride, why not have them relate their experiences here? I saw some spyders in the video of the event. It would be great to get a description from people who went- since there won't be any mainstream media coverage of it.

Just have to say this was a great ride even in the scorching heat. So many fellow bikers all with a single mindset to honor those we have lost defending our Freedom and those lost on 9 - 11. YFACTR rode great but did not like the slower parts of the ride and this old body is tired, more so than the 7 hr ride to Maggie Valley. Made a lot of new friends and felt proud to just be a part of such a great event. Sorry I didn't get pictures but it was a last minute decision to go and was all hyped up with all the bikes and riders.

I'll post photos and some personal insight from my day in D.C. later tonight when I get home from the office. So just hang in there......

BTW -- I saw at least a dozen Spyders in D.C. and passed a few on the way home late Wednesday afternoon.

My 1st Ever Protest

It was hot, very hot! Temperature was around 100º and humidity was 60-70%. There were a lot of bikes, a whole lot. If you asked me, my guess would have been 25,000 or so. But having never been to an event this size (I avoided the protests in the 60's and 70's :dontknow:) I really had nothing to reference it to. Turns out my guess was wrong by a lot. US Park service estimated 880.000 and the D.C. police dept estimated 1 million. :yikes: What was different and made estimating numbers hard compared to Rolling Thunder was the way the bikers came into the city. Rolling Thunder everybody comes in the same road in a continuous stream. 2 Million Bikers to D.C. didn't have a ride through permit so the groups arrived at different times from all directions. When I rode in I only saw about 6 or 7 bikers until I actually got onto Constitution Ave. They were lined up on both sides for a couple of blocks waiting fro the larger groups to arrive.

I headed up Constitution Ave toward the Capital with plans to circle the National Mall. This was about 11 AM. The bikers that were riding then were groups of 20 to 30 and smaller. That is until I got around to the Jefferson Memorial. I merged into a very large group. Maybe 1000 or more. :doorag: I rode with them toward the WWII Memorial where we got held up for over 35 minutes while a VERY VERY VERY LARGE group headed down Constitution toward the Capital. They were 5 to 6 bikes abreast. nojoke Capital police kept us from entering and joining that group. When they finally got past we could only go left or straight across the intersection and not follow them. This could have been part of the plan for handling all the bikers. I don't really know. :dontknow:

The local TV news station had a camera at one of the beltway exits to downtown and they reported that bikers passed them 4 abreast for 55 minutes going toward the National Mall area. :2thumbs:

There were large groups spread all over downtown. Even 10 to 20 blocks off of the mall I was seeing groups of 100 or more bikers.

The big question everybody was asking is "Where are the Million Muslims?" Even the media was asking bikers where the Muslims were. :roflblack: Turns out they could only muster up about 15 participants! :dg1: Around 1 PM the group of 15 gathered on the grass near the Capital and started their speeches. They had some difficulty. First, there was a Christian group counter-protesting them and doing a good job of out shouting them with megaphones. A line of DC cops between them kept the peace. On the other side of the Muslims were the casual observers, tourists and some bikers shouting at them as well. There were also DC cops between them too. But leave it to bikers to come up with an effective "peaceful" counter protest. Less then 100 feet from the Muslim speaker were a few dozen strategically parked motorcycles. The bikers took turns firing them up. They were loud! I don't think anyone heard a single work the Muslims were saying. Here is a short video I made of 'Bikers vs Muslims'

I also took some photos around town as well. Instead of posting them all here I put them in a separate album in my gallery. Follow this link to view the photos.

All in all I had a great time and am glad I took time off work to participate. :ohyea:
