Well, today was my first oil change I've done myself. And I have to tell you, it feels really good to know you put some high quality stuff in your machine... wish I would have done this earlier, but I had a maintenance plan at my dealer.
I took my time and followed the maintenance shop manual. Got the filters from BajaRon and am using Mobile 1 4T full synthetic oil.
To get a couple of extra inches, I doubled up some 2x8 (nailed together) and drove my Spyder up onto them (3 of them).
Only a couple of hickups... realized I didn't have the right size torx bit (T40)... so off to the store. And then the only other hickup was trying to get the engine plug undone... it was super tight and required some light tapping to loosen it, but it was extremely stuck on.
I don't understand why the Oil plug and the Engine plug have two different tool requirements... why not just use the same tool? If someone has suggestions for aftermarket plugs that are better and uniform, I would be interested.
Only other thing was big hands make for slow going, but it's doable!! And next time will be faster and it's great to see what others are talking about in providing short-cuts... I'll start to incorporate them in future changes.
RECOMMENDATION: If you are looking for an oil catch pan I got the Harley Davidson low profile pan and it's awesome. It's low profile and big enough you don't have to move it around.
