• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

1st blast down the interstate

Yesterday my wife and jumped on I-75 to run from Gainesville to Ocala. The traffic was rolling from 80 to 90 mph so we decided to see how our new 2014 RT would handle the super slab at those speeds. I kicked it up to around 82-84 mph to see about the buffeting everyone talks about,I put the windshield all the way up to keep the wind off my wife and it rode great! We passed several semi trucks with no swerving, the only issue we had was a vibration at that speed that would come and go in intensity. I assume from talking to other Spyder riders that it was the drive belt that I felt. I could drive out of it by going a few miles per hour faster,or by slowing down a few miles per hour. Would the belt tensioner that I see advertised cure that or is that a common trait of the Spyder? We do not normally ride that fast, but it was more annoying than anything. My Victory was belt drive and we have ridden a full tank of gas out at 80+ with no vibration. Any ideas?

Ours does it to at about 72mph to 78mph and it is the belt but no big deal, I heard that the
belt tensioner will help with this and I will put one on in the near future as we do a lot of
interstate driving.
Enjoy the new ride and ride safe.

Vibration

My 2007 Harley also had a belt drive and I never had a vibration in the belt. But My 2013 RT Limited has a vibration at certain rpm ranges that is very annoying especially if you are two up and going up a hill. I have read about these belt tensioners but I'm not sure because I have not know anybody who has actually used one. But I am frustrated enough that I may be trying one out myself very soon.

Length of the belt

I'm thinking the belt on a Spyder is a quite a bit longer than those used on Harleys and Victorys and can resonate (vibrate) harmonically at certain speeds. The distance between the pulleys is longer so without the tensioner it's going to vibrate.

Exactly! :2thumbs:
I never felt the need for a tensioner on my 2010; I guess that I just don't get up to those speeds, all that often... :opps:

When I purchased my 2012 RTS there was a pretty wide range of RPMs where there was a harmonic vibration from the drive belt. A few months ago I installed a belt tensioner which eliminated the majority of the harmonic vibration. The adjustment that Joe & Anne did to the back tire as part of the laser ailment service completely eliminated all harmonic vibration.
