There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. 1330 oil change interval

The maintenance schedule in the owners manual states that the oil should be changed every 9,300 miles. Since I changed my oil at 5,000, my assumption is that my next oil change should be at 14,300 miles on the odometer, rather than 9,300. Is this assumption correct? I just want to make sure because I am now approaching 9,200 miles on my :spyder2:.

Thanks!

That depends...

on the oil you use. What's the best oil to use and why?;):ohyea::joke:

Here's what you do..!!

Add the 9,300 miles to your last mileage a oil change...like you did.. mho I would not wait that long...seeing a lot of testing and oils start fading long before that...:dontknow:

Lou at Pirate Powersports, who does my work and whom I trust, thinks that 5000 in climates like California, which can get very hot, is a better interval, and I tend to err on the side of caution and see him every 5000 for oil and any tires or brakes that need changing.

I've changed the oil every 5,000 on all my previous bikes. This is the first one I've ever had that recommends such long intervals. I'll probably change it sooner than what they say just to be on the safe side.

Thanks

I like your 5k plan. Bur isn't it nice to know it's not going to grenade because you went a couple miles further.

RE: 1330 oil changes. That first is recommended at around 3000. Every 9,300 miles thereafter, OR once a year--whichever comes first.

Mine was changed out at 4,500 for the first--due to a lot of miles quick, and having to wait a week to schedule the break in change. I had 9,300 miles on at seasons end. Oil was changed at the beginning of 2015 at 9,300. Oil was recently changed at 19,500 and I am considering oil changes to be done for this year. I am thinking about 28,000 for my next oil change.

No issues with my unit. The 1330 has not burned any oil. Consider me a 9,000 mile oil change field tester for now.

Since one is concerned about protecting a big buck (at least for me) investment the simplest and perhaps most economical way to keep an eye on things is periodic oil analysis. The real bottom line is BRP would be a gang of absolute ignorant bufoons, which they aren't, to establish an oil change interval that they weren't extremely confident would lubricate and protect the engine for 9,300 miles if the proper grade and API service code oil is used.

Oil Change on the 1330 engine

Last year(10/2/14) I had the oil/ oil filter changed @ the 3,000 mile break- in time frame, this riding season I have over 10,000 miles, and (Thursday the spyder goes in for it winter hibernation), some time this year or next year the oil will get changed, @ the dealership.

Someone give me a suggestion.......... I have 10,000 miles on spyder, + 9,300= 19,300. Would 19,300 miles would be my next oil change?????

I have a 2014RTS-SE6 ( 1330 engine)

Next Oil Change

My understanding after reading the Manual is that a oil change should be accomplished at 9300 miles but if the clock starts after 3000 mile check up than the oil change interval is 6300 miles ( 3000 + 6300) = 9300. Unless I misunderstood what I read.

More Dealer BS???????

I just had my first/end of season service @2400 miles. My dealer told me that my second service should be when the odometer reaches 9300 miles, or in one year. By their math my second oil and filter change could be @a 6900 mile interval.
Like many here, I've switched to a wet clutch compatible commercially available 10W-40 motorcycle oil. I also will error on the side of caution and change the oil @4-5,000 miles.

Based on pages 120-121 of my user's guide I interpret the change intervals as the following: first one, 3,000 miles and every one after that initial change at 9,300 incremental miles or once/year. If one doesn't put 9,300 on the Spyder within one year from the 3,000 mile change, change it at the one year point. If you are putting lots of miles, first change is at 3,000 odometer miles and second is at 12,300. IMO, any dealership telling you any different is pegging the BS meter and wants some of the contents of your wallet. If I had more than 4,650 on the currnet fill of oil and was going to lay the Spyder up for the winter, which I thankfully don't have to do, I would change it befor laying it up as I would want to store it with fresh oil. YMMV.

:agree:That makes sense...

I've put 9,200 miles on my Spyder in its first 4 months. I think by the time I get to one year I'll be on my third oil change :roflblack:
