There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. :helpsmilie:For those that have had the 12K service done. Where your valves out of adjustment? Thinking about doing the 12K myself and just curious as to valve lash. Thanks Jim Please PM

I wonder (?) how many were charged for a 12K Valve Adjustment that NEVER even got done???:dontknow::popcorn:

If it isnt broke, dont fix it. You can purchase a service manual on Ebay. I did for about 7 dollars. Down loadable, but dont print it out. You will use 5 or 6 print cartridges. On page 563 is the specs. Good luck. No one touches my bike but me. I just dont trust service departments unless I am watching.

We have 40,000+ miles on our SE5, 2008. My valves have never been touched, checked, adjusted, nada. I guess it comes down to how much faith you have in your Spyder as a machine that was put together right, and will remain so until touched by human hands. I am not a mechanic, but can look as well as most people if anything is leaking, etc. Anyway, I will just continue riding and see where it takes me. I change my own oil and oil filter every 5,000 miles, using Royal Purple 10W40 Synthetic.

Coming from the other side of the fence= After I had the first update my Spyder has never been the same. It seems every time it went in for service it came out with another issue popping up within 1 day to 1 month.
In the shop for 5 months this year. Last time I get it back I get transmission error codes related to my paddle shifter. Most times it will shift, sometimes I need to double shift or down shift to get the engine light and warning to shut off. Very frustrating.:gaah:

Wasn't the valve check originally supposed to be at 6K and then they changed it to 12K? Or has it always been 12K?
If it was 6K last Jan., I sure the service dept. didn't do it.

had valves adjusted on my 2008 at 10K--before the valve adj. controversy--dealer says my 2009 and 2010 should not need adjustment till about 20K. He looked at the valves on his machines and said they were ok at 10K. I have 16K and 10K on the newer machines and they are running fine.

:agree:I have 14,000 miles GS 08 never checked/adjust the valves, change oil/filter myself every 4,000 miles.
If it ain't broke I'm not letting anybody Monkey with it. My strong opinion, BRP,s maintenance schedule is over kill;
As in somebody is going to make a lot of money on maintenance.:D

It was originally (very early) every 6K, then was changed to every 12K, but the first check is still supposed to be done at 6,000. That makes the schedule 6/18/30/42 etc.

I checked my own at 12k miles and they were within spec. I don't remember my numbers, they are recorded, but not available right now. Based on my clearances, I was confident that they would not need to be checked again until 24k miles. The part that bothered me was throwing away perfect looking valve cover gaskets. (I actually kept them - You never know what you might need and BRP may have on back order)

12 K on both of ours, One has a service agrement on it, I will go in B4 Smokeys. Both dealers have said the samething "no need to check them... but we will if you want us to - 6-8 hrs of work..."

If that is all you are doing; and you know what you are doing that is about right. Most of the time is spent first getting stuff out of the way of the valve covers and then later, putting it back. It only takes a few minutes to check the actual clearance. Of course if you need to change a shim or shims :yikes: I don't have a clue how long that part would take. Do any of our dealers have shims in stock :dontknow:. Who knows how long, getting the shims from BRP could take if they don't.

The service manual did start at 6k for valves. Now were told 12k with the plan by BRP to be at 20k at some point. We explain this to our customers and let them make the choice. If it was me ,20k ;). Keep in mind though that warranty can be effected if valves are not done according to BRP spec. Very important we all know that just in the off chance you have a valve train failure and they weren't checked.

Dealer did my 12K and I was told that the valves where adjusted - at least that's what my service record said. I was told no substantial cost in checking and adjusting when I cheked on the cost of the service.
